How you connect a Xiaomi camera to a PC depends on what you want to do. To copy saved footage, use a card reader if your exact camera stores recordings on a removable microSD card. To view a live feed, do not assume Xiaomi Home will work on a computer: Xiaomi says the app has no direct Windows or macOS version, and the C300 specifically does not support PC viewing through Xiaomi Home.
Choose the method that matches your goal

Xiaomi’s Mi Home/Xiaomi Home platform FAQ says the app has no PC version and is not directly supported on Windows or macOS: Xiaomi Home PC support FAQ. That does not rule out every model-specific method, but it means installing the phone app on a computer is not a universal solution.
Copy recordings from a removable microSD card
A card reader is for transferring saved files; it does not provide a live camera feed. Xiaomi documents this approach for certain models. For example, the C700 FAQ says recordings on its microSD card can be viewed on a computer after removing the card when the camera is offline or powered off: Xiaomi Smart Camera C700 FAQ.

Check the support page or manual for your exact camera and verify that it records to a removable microSD card. Confirm the model’s supported capacity, format, and speed requirements.
- Power down as instructed. Follow the camera’s own instructions before removing its card. Do not assume every model uses the same removal procedure.
- Connect the card to the PC. Insert it into a compatible USB microSD card reader, then connect the reader to the computer.
- Copy the recordings. Open the card in your computer’s file manager and copy the video files to a folder on the PC.
- Verify before reuse. Open the copied files and confirm they play correctly before deleting, formatting, or otherwise changing the card’s contents.
Card specifications are model-specific. Xiaomi lists microSD storage up to 256 GB for the Smart Camera C300; that limit should not be assumed for another Xiaomi camera: Xiaomi Smart Camera C300 FAQ.

View a live feed on a computer
There is no universal Xiaomi Home desktop procedure. Xiaomi’s C300 FAQ explicitly says live monitoring and recording playback on a computer through Xiaomi Home are unsupported: Xiaomi Smart Camera C300 FAQ. Other models may differ, so check the support information for the exact camera rather than treating the C300 answer as a rule for every device.
A separate Xiaomi support page mentions live viewing through a computer client, but it does not identify compatible camera models, the client’s name, where to download it, which operating systems it supports, or whether it is currently available: Xiaomi camera computer-client guidance. Before installing software, confirm those details in current support information for your model. If Xiaomi does not document a compatible client, the cited guidance does not establish a supported PC live-view method for that camera.

Export footage from a Mi Dashcam over USB
Xiaomi documents a direct USB export route for its Mi Dashcam, separate from instructions for indoor cameras. Its support guidance calls for updating the dashcam to the latest firmware and connecting it to the computer with a data cable through the dashcam’s microUSB interface. Follow the model-specific instructions here: Xiaomi Mi Dashcam file-transfer guidance. The same guidance also describes removing the memory card and transferring files with a card reader. Do not apply the dashcam USB procedure to another Xiaomi camera unless its own support documentation confirms compatibility.

Use NAS or router storage only if your model supports it
Some Xiaomi camera models support transferring recordings to NAS or Xiaomi router storage. Xiaomi’s C300 and older 360° camera support pages describe model-specific storage workflows; support on one model does not establish support on another. If the PC cannot access the footage
- No removable card: A card reader will not help if the camera does not store recordings on a removable microSD card. Look for a model-specific export or supported storage option instead.
- The card is not readable: Recheck that the reader supports the card and that the camera’s card requirements are met. Avoid formatting the card if you still need the recordings.
- You are looking for live video: A card reader only copies saved files. Confirm whether Xiaomi documents a current computer client for your exact camera; the existence of guidance for some cameras does not prove your model is supported.
- You have a dashcam: Verify that the device is a Mi Dashcam and follow its firmware and USB instructions rather than using guidance for a Xiaomi indoor camera.
