There is no evidence here for a defensible universal top-five ranking: the available product specifications and editorial recommendations use different methods and do not establish a like-for-like comparison of price, performance, or regional availability. Instead, this guide identifies five color laser printers worth investigating by use case and explains what to verify before buying. The examples span U.S. and UK product lines, so check the exact local model and current specifications.

How to choose a color laser printer

Start with the work the printer must do. A print-only machine may suit an office that already has a scanner; a multifunction model can combine printing with scanning, copying, and faxing. Canon’s imageCLASS buying guide covers home and office laser printers, and its MF753Cdw II is specified for all four functions.

Then compare features that are easy to confuse or overlook:

  • Duplex printing versus duplex scanning: automatic two-sided printing saves paper. A duplex automatic document feeder (ADF) can scan both sides of an original; confirm that the model supports the workflow you need.
  • Connectivity: check whether the printer offers the USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connections that fit your desk or shared office. Brother’s buying guide also highlights wireless connectivity and duplexing as selection considerations.
  • Paper capacity and footprint: compare the standard tray capacity with your typical jobs, and measure the printer’s dimensions against its intended location.
  • Workload: use a manufacturer’s recommended monthly volume as a model-specific planning reference, not as a guarantee of speed, durability, or suitability for every business.
  • Supplies and restrictions: identify compatible toner, declared yield, separate maintenance items, and any cartridge-chip or firmware policies. A low purchase price does not by itself establish a low cost per page.

For a true ranked comparison, all candidates would need current local prices and stock, consistent speed and workload figures, paper and connectivity specifications, and comparable toner and maintenance costs. Those data are not established for these five examples, so the list below is organized by likely use rather than rank.

Five color laser printers to consider

1. Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw II: multifunction for a small office

Consider this U.S.-market model if you need printing, scanning, copying, and faxing in one device. Canon lists a 50-sheet, one-pass duplex ADF, USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity, and a standard 250-sheet cassette. Its support specifications give a recommended monthly print volume of 750–4,000 pages and describe an optional cassette that raises maximum capacity to 850 sheets. Check Canon’s product listing and support specifications for the current configuration and regional availability.

Canon rates the MF753Cdw II at up to 35 pages per minute on letter paper; that is a manufacturer-published maximum, not an independent test result. The model uses Canon Genuine Toner 069 or 069 H cartridges. Canon’s cited materials provide cartridge yields, but those figures should be checked alongside current local toner prices before estimating running costs.

2. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw: multifunction with a cartridge policy to check

This is another multifunction candidate for buyers who need print, scan, copy, and fax capability. HP’s product specifications list 210A and 210X cartridge options; the listed 210X yields are approximately 7,500 pages for black and 5,500 pages for each color cartridge. HP cautions that actual yield varies with printed content and other factors, so treat those numbers as estimates rather than guaranteed output. See HP’s product specifications.

Before choosing this model, read HP’s explanation of its dynamic security policy. HP says the cited 4301fdw is designed to work with cartridges using a new or reused HP chip, and that dynamic security can block cartridges without an HP chip. Verify the policy for the exact regional variant and decide whether those supply terms suit you.

3. Brother HL-L8430CDW: print-only duplex option

Brother’s U.S. catalog identifies the HL-L8430CDW as a wireless business color laser printer with duplex printing. That makes it a possible shortlist entry if you do not need an integrated scanner or copier. The catalog information alone does not establish a full comparison of speed, paper handling, monthly workload, dimensions, or supply costs. Review the detailed U.S. specification sheet and confirm the precise configuration before buying: Brother HL-L8430CDW.

4. Xerox C325: home-office all-in-one candidate

TechRadar’s 2026 home-printer roundup includes the Xerox C325 as a color laser all-in-one and reports a speed of up to 33 pages per minute. Those are the outlet’s editorial characterization and reported specification, not a test by this publication. Check the official specification for your country before relying on the feature set or speed; the roundup alone does not establish a comparable cost, workload, or regional configuration.

5. Brother MFC-L8390CDW: multifunction option in the UK lineup

Brother UK presents the MFC-L8390CDW as an all-rounder and discusses its scanning and duplex-printing capabilities. Its UK product information is relevant to that lineup, not proof that a similarly named model has the same configuration elsewhere. Check the local model suffix and whether wireless networking is included: Brother notes that some flagship color models may require an optional wireless accessory.

What to verify before you buy

  1. Confirm the exact regional model. Compare the manufacturer page and local retailer listing, including the full model name and suffix. Product families can differ across countries.
  2. Check the functions you will actually use. Confirm print-only versus multifunction, and distinguish automatic duplex printing from duplex scanning through an ADF.
  3. Match the printer to the workload and workspace. Review recommended monthly volume, standard and optional paper capacity, supported media, and physical dimensions for the specific model.
  4. Price the supplies you can use. Check the compatible cartridge family, declared yield and its stated conditions, current cartridge availability, and any separate maintenance items. Confirm chip or firmware restrictions before committing to a supply plan.
  5. Compare local costs and support terms. Check current device price, stock, warranty, and service options in your region. The examples here do not provide a shared, dated price comparison or establish a cost-per-page ranking.
