Five Dockerized apps can give a local AI setup practical jobs beyond answering prompts: processing documents, researching sources, organizing notes, monitoring infrastructure, and searching the web. In an article published by XDA Developers on September 13, 2026, Ayush Pande describes using Paperless-GPT, Open Notebook, Blinko, Pulse, and Perplexica for those roles. The examples are first-person experience, not independent performance or security tests.

What these five containers do

Application Primary job Data or sources involved Workflow described
Paperless-GPT Document OCR and processing Scanned bills, tax records, receipts, and contracts Works alongside Paperless-ngx; the author describes vision-model OCR and tag generation.
Open Notebook Research-source analysis Documents and web pages added as sources Uses embedding models for RAG-style answers, summaries, insights, quizzes, and podcasts.
Blinko Note capture and organization Quick thoughts, longer notes, and checklists The author describes summaries, automatic tagging, and RAG-based search or analysis over notes.
Pulse Infrastructure monitoring Hosts, virtual machines, containers, and logs Monitoring with AI-assisted scans and log analysis, as reported by the author.
Perplexica Web search for local-LLM workflows Online search results and selected sources Connects local-LLM workflows to web search using SearXNG, according to the article.

Which container fits the job?

Paperless-GPT for document processing

Paperless-GPT is presented as a companion to Paperless-ngx for handling documents such as bills, tax records, receipts, and contracts. Pande says it can use vision models for OCR, which he found useful for non-English characters and irregular layouts. He also describes tag generation, while preferring Paperless AI for that specific task. These are the author’s observations; the article does not report OCR accuracy measurements.

Paperless AI is an additional Paperless-ngx companion mentioned in the article, not one of its five featured applications.

Open Notebook for source-based research

Open Notebook is described as a self-hosted way to analyze documents and web pages. Its reported workflows include adding sources, asking RAG-style questions with embedding models, creating summaries and key insights, analyzing papers, and generating quizzes or podcasts. Pande’s motivation includes keeping confidential research away from Google’s servers, but that is not evidence of a security guarantee: the article provides no threat model or security evaluation.

Blinko for notes and quick capture

Blinko separates quick-capture “blinkos” from fuller notes and checklists. The author says his local-LLM workflow uses it to summarize long notes, tag them automatically, and search or analyze a note collection with RAG. The article does not specify model compatibility or provide test results, so treat these as described use cases rather than a compatibility promise.

Pulse for server and device monitoring

Pulse is primarily a monitoring application in Pande’s account. He describes using it with Proxmox nodes, LXC containers, virtual machines, and hardware, and mentions monitoring TrueNAS, Docker workstations, Windows PCs, and macOS systems. AI-assisted scans and sending host or guest logs for analysis are presented as troubleshooting aids. The article does not quantify detection accuracy or establish support details for current releases.

Perplexica for online information

Perplexica is described as a way to give local LLM workflows access to online search, with SearXNG as its search engine. Pande says source filtering can help avoid low-quality material and that web access can help with subjects beyond a model’s training data. Search does not eliminate hallucinations or guarantee that results are accurate. The article’s privacy framing is not an independent privacy assessment.

What the five-app list does—and does not—establish

The useful distinction is the work each app targets, not a ranking. Paperless-GPT handles documents; Open Notebook works with research sources; Blinko organizes notes; Pulse monitors infrastructure; and Perplexica brings web search into a local-LLM workflow. The article offers no comparable figures for cost, resource use, setup difficulty, model support, security, or measured performance.
