Spotify Premium Family is a discounted plan for people who live together: members keep separate Spotify accounts, but one plan manager pays and manages membership. Spotify’s Ireland support page describes a plan for up to six people, including the manager; capacity and terms can vary by country and signup date, so check the offer shown for your location.
Who can join, and how many people does it cover?
Household residence—not just a family relationship—is the key requirement. Members must live with the plan manager and provide the same home address when they join. Spotify may ask members to verify their address again if the manager changes theirs or Spotify cannot confirm a member’s address. Spotify’s Ireland Family plan page describes coverage for up to six people including the manager, but that figure should not be assumed to apply to every market or older subscription.

If an address check fails, Spotify may send a verification email. A member who does not re-enter an address within seven days, or cannot pass verification, loses Family access and returns to Spotify Free. Spotify also lists restrictions on joining another Family or Duo plan after a failed verification. See its address-verification guidance.
How do the manager and members use the plan?
The plan manager
The manager signs up, pays the full subscription price, sets the household address, and controls invitations and membership. The charge does not shrink when fewer than the maximum number of members join. Removing members alone does not downgrade the subscription; the manager must switch to another plan to do that.

Other members
Each member uses a separate Spotify account and signs in independently. Listening and account use are not combined into one shared profile. To join, a member needs an invitation from the manager and must confirm the plan address.
How to set up or join Premium Family
- Manager: In Spotify’s plan options, choose Family, enter the home address, and provide a payment method.
- Manager: Open the account page and invite the people who will join.
- Invited member: Open the invitation while signed in to the Spotify account they intend to use for the plan.
- Invited member: Accept the invitation and enter the same address as the manager.
If Spotify cannot verify an address, follow the instructions in its verification email and meet the seven-day response window.

Who pays, and what happens when billing changes?
The manager is responsible for the whole Family charge. Spotify’s U.S. billing guidance says an existing Premium subscription billed directly by Spotify switches automatically when the subscriber moves to a Family plan. If payment goes through a mobile provider or another company, the subscriber must cancel that billing and wait for the current Premium period to end before joining through the manager. A member’s unused Premium time is forfeited when billing moves to the manager. These transition details are from U.S. guidance and may not describe billing arrangements in every country. Is Duo a better fit for two people?
Spotify describes Premium Duo as a discounted plan for two people who live together. Like Family, it provides separate Premium accounts with one paying manager. If only two co-residents need Premium, compare Duo with the local Family offer; the relevant distinction established here is the number of people the plans are designed to cover. What Family features have limits?
Audiobooks
Only the manager receives the audiobook listening time included with Family or Duo. The manager can buy additional listening hours for other members, but the included allowance is not shared across the household.
Managed accounts for young listeners
A parent or legal guardian must manage the Family plan to create a managed young-listener account. Converting an existing Spotify account can remove some content or features and affect listening history and personal information after the seven-day undo period. What to check before choosing Family
- Count how many people need their own Premium account.
- Confirm that every member meets the same-household address rule.
- Check the price, available plan size, and terms displayed for your country; there is no single universal price established here.
- Confirm how each person is billed now and whether a third-party billing period must end before joining.
- Decide whether the manager’s audiobook allowance or managed-account controls matter to your household.
- Make sure the manager is comfortable paying the full plan price and controlling invitations and membership.
