To add an installed app to a Samsung Galaxy tablet’s Home screen, swipe up to open the Apps screen, touch and hold the app, then tap Add to Home. You can also keep holding the icon and drag it to the Home screen location you want. A shortcut gives you faster access to the app; removing that shortcut later does not uninstall the app.
Add an app shortcut to the Home screen
- From the Home screen, swipe up to open the Apps screen.
- Touch and hold the app you want to add.
- Tap Add to Home. Alternatively, keep holding the app and drag it to the preferred Home screen page and location, then release it.
If the page has no room, move an existing icon or create another Home screen page. To add a page, touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen to enter edit mode, swipe through the pages, and tap the plus icon. Samsung notes that available screens and settings can vary by device model, software version, and carrier (Samsung’s Galaxy shortcut instructions).
Remove a shortcut without uninstalling the app
Touch and hold the Home screen icon, then choose Remove from Home. The shortcut disappears, but the app stays installed and remains available from the Apps screen. Do not choose an uninstall option if you only want to clear the Home screen. The exact menu wording can vary.

Create a folder
Drag one app icon on top of another to create a folder. Name the folder, then drag additional shortcuts into it. Folders are useful for grouping related apps, though opening an app inside one takes an extra tap.

Add a widget
Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen, choose Widgets, then drag a widget into place. Widgets can show information or provide quick access to an app feature without opening the app first. Available widgets and whether they can be resized depend on the app.
Choose the right quick-access spot

Use the Taskbar for apps you open often
Samsung says Galaxy tablets have four Taskbar app slots for quick access. Apps in Favorites appear on the Taskbar. Samsung also describes saving an app pair after placing two apps in Multi window; the controls and availability can depend on software version. Add apps to an Edge panel
If your tablet supports Edge panels, open the Edge panel handle, tap its settings gear, and select the panels you want. To add app shortcuts, edit the Apps Edge panel. Samsung says users can select up to ten panels, but the feature is not available on every model or software version. Some downloadable panels may require payment. Set Lock screen shortcuts
Samsung’s shortcut guide says devices running One UI 6 can customize the left and right Lock screen shortcuts when a Lock screen is configured. An app that requires authentication will still prompt you to unlock before it opens. The feature and its controls can vary by device and software version; consult Samsung’s shortcut instructions for the relevant options.

If a shortcut option is missing
- Check that you are on the Apps screen and touching and holding an installed app, rather than a Home screen blank area.
- Try dragging the held app to the Home screen if Add to Home is not shown.
- Make room on the page or add another Home screen page if the icon has nowhere to go.
- For Taskbar, Edge panel, or Lock screen features, check whether your model and software version support the feature; Samsung says screens, settings, and availability may vary.
