A Galaxy A54 battery can drain quickly because of setup activity, background apps, weak mobile signal, 5G use, demanding screen activity, or battery wear. The symptom alone does not identify the cause. Start by checking Battery usage on the phone, then adjust only the apps and settings that match what you find.
Samsung’s guidance cited here applies broadly to Galaxy devices, not to a particular A54 model number or One UI version. Menu names and paths can differ; if a step does not match your screen, search Settings for “Battery” or “Device care.”
Could temporary setup activity explain the drain?
If the A54 is new, was recently reset, or has just had many apps installed, apps and services may be optimizing in the background. Samsung says this can raise battery use during the first few days, but does not give a guaranteed timeline for every phone. Use the phone normally and check whether the drain eases after setup activity settles.

Battery usage details are the best first check because they can point to an app consuming more power than expected. Samsung’s US instructions give this approximate route:

- Open Settings > Battery.
- Tap View details to inspect battery use by app.
- If one app stands out, consider whether its screen time or background activity matches your use. Update it if an update is available, or review its background permissions and usage.
The labels and route may vary by software release. A high-use app is a clue, not proof that the app is faulty: gaming, video, navigation, and other sustained activity can legitimately use substantial power.
How can you limit unnecessary background activity?
Samsung’s Device care and battery controls can restrict apps that do not need to run continuously. Update the phone’s software and apps where appropriate, then review the available optimization and background-use settings. Samsung’s guidance describes sleeping and deep sleeping app lists; deep-sleeping apps run only when opened, so notifications, syncing, or other background work may be delayed.

- Use sleep controls for apps that do not need timely alerts or background updates.
- Do not place every app into deep sleep automatically. Keep messaging, security, health, or work apps available if you rely on their immediate notifications or syncing.
- Use Device care optimization as a check, rather than installing a separate “battery fixer” app.
Could signal, 5G, or heavy use be the reason?
Samsung identifies weak or unstable mobile signal and 5G use as possible contributors to battery drain. The effect depends on coverage and how the phone is being used; 5G is not necessarily the cause, and changing network settings has no guaranteed amount of savings. Notice whether the drain mainly occurs in places with poor reception or during 5G use.
Also look for a timing match with demanding activities. Gaming, video streaming, location use, and frequent syncing can increase power use, as can environmental conditions. These are factors to investigate, not a diagnosis of an A54 battery fault.

When should you use Power saving mode?
Turn on Power saving mode when you need more runtime before you can charge. Samsung says it can limit background data and higher-power functions, so some apps may refresh less often or deliver notifications later. The exact controls and effects can vary by device and software.
How can you tell whether the battery may be worn?
Battery capacity gradually declines through repeated charging and discharging. Samsung describes the battery as a consumable component and says reduced capacity cannot be restored. However, fast drain by itself does not establish that the A54 battery has failed: app activity, signal conditions, and setup can produce similar symptoms.

If the drain remains unexplained after checking usage and settings, run diagnostics in the Samsung Members app if available in your region, or contact Samsung support for an assessment. Use an official service assessment before assuming a replacement part is appropriate.
What should you do about a “battery draining fast” pop-up?
Be cautious if an unexpected alert urges you to download an app to fix battery drain. Samsung US warns that some third-party apps use fake alerts such as “Battery is draining fast” to prompt downloads. Check the phone’s built-in Battery details and Device care instead; do not install an app solely because a pop-up claims the battery is in danger.

A practical order for troubleshooting
- Consider whether the phone is new, recently reset, or freshly configured; temporary optimization may raise use during the first few days.
- Open Battery usage details and identify apps accounting for the drain.
