Yes—players can defeat Necromorphs in Dead Space combat, where dismemberment is a core tactic. But defeating one in gameplay is not the same as proving it is permanently dead in the story: the official sources cited here explain the combat mechanics, not a universal rule for what permanently kills every Necromorph.
What “killed” means in Dead Space
The question has two answers depending on whether you mean gameplay or the fiction. In a fight, Isaac can damage and defeat Necromorphs. In the story, the sources cited here do not establish that every defeated, dismembered, or immobilized Necromorph is permanently dead.

How players defeat Necromorphs
Electronic Arts describes Isaac using weapons, engineering tools, and abilities to fight Necromorphs. Its description of the remake’s Peeling System explains how combat can expose layers of flesh, tendons, and bone. The ESRB likewise characterizes combat as using weapons such as plasma cutters and flamethrowers, with attacks sometimes resulting in dismemberment.
These descriptions establish what players do and see; they do not define permanent death in the lore. Avoid treating “defeated,” “incapacitated,” and “permanently killed” as interchangeable.

Why Necromorph damage is visible
The remake uses visible damage as combat feedback. EA Motive Gameplay Tech Lead Pierre-Vincent Belisle explained the design goal: “What we wanted to do is have Necromorphs show you—without an actual health bar or HP—how much damage they’ve gotten.” The statement describes how the game communicates damage to players, not what happens to a Necromorph after a fight.
What the official sources do not settle
The official materials cited here do not say that dismemberment always causes permanent death, explain the fate of every severed or immobilized body, or establish one rule for all Necromorph types. They support the narrower conclusion that Necromorphs can be fought and defeated in gameplay. A definitive answer about permanent death would need to be tied to a specific game or other attributable canon source.

Where to see the combat for yourself
The Dead Space remake is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to Electronic Arts. Playing it can show how combat and damage are presented, but gameplay alone does not establish a universal lore rule for permanent death. For developer details on the remake’s damage and dismemberment design, see EA Motive’s article on the Necromorph design. The ESRB rating also summarizes the game’s combat content.
