For Windows disk imaging, cloning, and recovery, Macrium Reflect Home is the more focused choice. Acronis True Image is a broader backup bundle: its higher personal plans add cloud storage and security features, and its listed platform support extends to macOS, Android, and iOS. The better fit depends on what you need to protect, where backups must live, and what the subscription includes—not on a proven speed or reliability advantage. The available vendor sources do not establish an independent head-to-head performance winner.
Macrium Reflect vs Acronis: the practical differences
| Decision | Macrium Reflect Home (Reflect X) | Acronis True Image |
|---|---|---|
| Main emphasis | Windows imaging, cloning, and recovery | Backup and cloning bundled with security features |
| Backup destinations | Local destinations, including removable storage; confirm current options for your setup | Local backup; cloud storage and cloud features are included in higher tiers |
| Listed platforms | Windows-focused; compatibility depends on edition | Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, according to Acronis’s plan information |
| License model | Per-computer license; Reflect X Home currently uses annual plans | One-year subscriptions, with device coverage and cloud storage varying by tier |
| Notable features | Resumable imaging, documented image formats, and Image Guardian ransomware protection | Higher tiers add cloud storage and additional cyber-protection features |
These are differences described by the vendors, not results from a neutral product test. Macrium’s Reflect X overview, edition comparison, and Acronis plan comparison explain their respective features and terms. Acronis’s direct comparison with Macrium is the company’s own marketing material, so treat comparative claims there as Acronis’s position rather than independent findings.
Which should you choose?
Choose Macrium Reflect Home for focused Windows recovery
Reflect Home is a natural starting point if you primarily need to image a Windows computer, clone a drive, or restore files or a system from a local backup. Macrium describes Reflect X as including image and file backup, cloning, rescue media, and recovery features. Its documented feature set also includes resumable imaging and updated image formats. Check the current system requirements and Reflect X feature details for your edition and setup.

What do the plans cost?
Acronis’s US product pages list these annual prices and included cloud allowances. They are vendor-listed US figures accessed in 2026, not universal prices; check the current checkout page for your region and renewal terms.
| Acronis True Image plan | US price listed | Cloud storage listed |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $49.99 per year | None; local-only |
| Advanced | $72.99 per year | 50 GB included |
| Premium | $124.99 per year | 1 TB included |
Acronis shows higher storage options for higher tiers; consult its product page and plan and pricing comparison for current details. Macrium’s current policy says Reflect X licenses are per computer and Home is available on annual plans, but the current Macrium pages reviewed do not establish a stable numeric Home price. Check the Reflect Home purchase page for your region rather than relying on an assumed figure.

Compare renewal terms and what happens if you stop paying
Macrium says an active annual plan includes support and upgrades. If it lapses, Macrium’s Reflect X licensing policy says the software continues in “restore-only” mode. Acronis lists one-year subscriptions, but the exact device coverage, storage, and features depend on the selected tier. Before buying either product, compare the renewal amount, number of covered devices, support, storage allowance, and which capabilities remain available after the term.

- Define the recovery job. Decide whether you need full-disk images and bare-metal recovery, file recovery, drive cloning, or a combination.
- Count devices and identify platforms. Note whether you are protecting Windows PCs only or also need Mac and mobile coverage.
- Choose local, cloud, or both. A local external drive can serve as a separate backup destination. Macrium documentation includes removable USB storage among possible image destinations, and Acronis describes local backup to external drives. A local copy alone does not provide off-site protection.
- Decide whether bundled security matters. If you already use separate security tools, weigh whether paying for an integrated security bundle adds value for your situation.
- Test the recovery workflow before you rely on it. Create recovery media and learn how to restore using your chosen setup. Do not treat marketing language as evidence of restore speed.
For local backup, choose an external SSD or USB drive with capacity suited to the data you need to protect and a connection your computer supports. No specific drive model is established as a tested recommendation here.

Does either product have a proven speed or reliability advantage?
No independent comparative performance result in the available sources establishes that one product is faster or more reliable overall. Vendor feature descriptions can help you determine whether a plan meets your needs, but they do not substitute for a fair, independently run head-to-head benchmark.
