Usually, you can remove Realtek Audio Console if you never use its controls and have no audio problems. It is a software utility, not the audio hardware itself. Uninstalling the app through Windows settings is different from removing the audio device or its driver in Device Manager. If sound is already failing, troubleshoot the driver rather than treating app removal as a fix.

What Realtek Audio Console does—and what it is not

Realtek Audio Console is a Windows utility. MSI, for example, describes it as a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) utility available through Microsoft Store; that does not establish that every PC has the same features or installation route. See MSI’s support information.

The Console app is separate from the sound hardware and audio driver. Windows manages installed apps through Settings or Start, while audio devices and their drivers are managed through Device Manager. Microsoft documents these as separate procedures in its Windows sound troubleshooting guidance and app removal instructions.

Keep it or remove it?

Choice Best for What to expect
Keep Realtek Audio Console You use a control provided by the Console on your particular PC. Retains access to the controls available in that installation. Features vary by PC configuration; do not assume another model has the same options.
Remove Realtek Audio Console You do not use it and want to remove an app you do not need. Uninstalls the app using Windows’ app-removal path. This is not the same as uninstalling the audio device or driver in Device Manager.

For a working PC whose owner never opens the Console, removing the app is a reasonable housekeeping choice. If you rely on one of its available controls, keep it. Windows notes that some apps cannot be uninstalled, so the option may not be available for every app or configuration.

SABRENT USB External Stereo Sound Card Adapter, Plug & Play (AU-MMSA)
  • PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
  • WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
  • TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
  • FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
  • SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.

How to remove the app without removing the driver

  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. The exact label or layout can vary with your Windows version.
  2. Find Realtek Audio Console, open its menu, and choose Uninstall if Windows offers that option.
  3. Follow the on-screen confirmation. Do not use Device Manager to uninstall the audio device or driver if your intention is only to remove the app.

Windows also supports uninstalling some apps from Start. For the available methods and the caveat that some apps cannot be removed, see Microsoft’s instructions for uninstalling apps.

Microsoft’s documentation treats app removal and driver removal separately, but it does not promise what will happen to every OEM’s driver package when only the Console app is uninstalled. Avoid selecting driver-removal options during an app-only cleanup. If you need to restore app-linked software later, consult the support instructions for your exact PC or motherboard model.

If you are removing it because sound is broken

Removing the Console is not an established fix for a playback or recording fault. Check the audio device and driver instead. Microsoft’s general Windows guidance includes updating the driver, or uninstalling the audio device driver and restarting so Windows can attempt to reinstall it. Those are driver troubleshooting steps—not a reason to remove the Console app.

  1. Open Device Manager and locate the audio device under Sound, video and game controllers.
  2. Use Device Manager’s driver update option, or follow Microsoft’s audio troubleshooting steps if you are considering uninstalling the device driver.
  3. Restart the PC after driver changes. Windows may reinstall the driver on restart.
  4. If Windows does not find a suitable driver, use the support page for the exact PC or motherboard model. Microsoft advises: “If Windows doesn’t find a new driver, look for one on the device manufacturer’s website and follow those instructions.”

Follow the steps and cautions in Microsoft’s audio troubleshooting guide. For model-specific driver packages, start with the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s support page; avoid unofficial driver mirrors.

What to check before deciding

  • You have no sound issue and do not use the app: Removing the Console through Windows’ app settings is optional housekeeping.
  • You use a Console control: Keep the app, since the controls available depend on your PC’s configuration.
  • You are troubleshooting audio: Work on the audio device and driver separately, and use the manufacturer’s support instructions if Windows cannot find the right driver.
  • You may want it back: Check your PC or motherboard maker’s instructions first; a universal reinstallation route is not established for every model.
