To get verified for Canva Education, apply through Canva’s Education signup with a recognized school email domain or your school’s Clever, Microsoft, or Google account. If Canva cannot verify your role automatically, submit official proof of your current teaching status and school affiliation. Canva says eligible applicants using a verified educational email domain may get access right away; document applications are reviewed within 48 hours, though that is guidance rather than a guaranteed decision time.
Who can qualify for Canva Education?
Canva Education is free for eligible users worldwide, but its eligibility rules focus on active K–12 (primary and secondary) educators and qualifying institutions. Eligible roles include:
- Certified teachers working at a formally accredited K–12 school.
- Certified school librarians.
- Learning support assistants or teachers and curriculum specialists.
- Certified teachers at technical or vocational schools serving primary or secondary students.
Government-recognized, formally accredited K–12 schools, school districts, departments of education, and other qualifying school systems may also be eligible. See Canva’s Eligibility Guidelines for the full criteria.

Canva lists higher-education institutions and staff, college and university students, adult or continuing-education institutions, public librarians, preschool or daycare assistants, private or online tutors, volunteer tutors, and extracurricular organizations among those not eligible for this program. It also excludes teachers who are no longer actively teaching, unaffiliated or unlicensed homeschool educators, non-teaching nonprofits, early-stage education startups, and parents applying on behalf of children. Canva directs higher-education users to Canva for Campus and has a separate program for qualifying nonprofits.

How do you apply and get verified?
- Open Canva’s Education signup. If you already have a Canva account, sign in and follow the Education signup and verification flow. Canva says existing designs transfer when you upgrade. Start at Canva’s Education page.
- Choose an account route. Use a recognized educational email domain, or sign in with your school or district’s Clever, Microsoft, or Google account if that option is available to you.
- Enter your role and school details. Follow the prompts, select “Teacher,” choose your school type, and provide your name, country, school name, address, and school website.
- Follow Canva’s verification result. A recognized school email domain may be enough for access. If Canva does not recognize it or requests more proof, upload a photo or scan of a supporting document. Canva’s Help Center says the document should show your name, school name, and teaching position.
- Submit proof later if needed. If you skipped document submission during signup, Canva says you can submit documents afterward using the submission route linked from its Canva Education Help Center guide.
Canva’s current guidance says verified educational email domains can receive access right away. That describes the email-verification route; it does not mean every school email domain will be recognized or that every application is automatically approved.
What documents should you prepare?
Canva may ask for official evidence that confirms both your current teaching status and your connection to a qualifying school. Examples Canva lists include:

- A current teaching license or certification.
- Evidence of current employment at a school, if requested.
- A school ID that indicates your teaching status.
- For an institution applying as an organization, documentation that it is government-recognized and formally accredited as a K–12 institution.
Requirements can vary by location. Canva specifically says teachers in Japan, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, South Korea, and Europe need only provide a copy of their teaching license. Follow the document instructions shown for your location and application.
Which verification route should you use?

Use the email or institutional-login route if you have a school credential Canva recognizes. If the domain is not recognized, or Canva asks for proof, submit the requested documents instead. Having one of the example documents does not by itself guarantee approval; your current role and institution must also meet Canva’s eligibility rules.

Can students use Canva Education?
K–12 students do not apply as independent teacher applicants. Canva says a teacher must invite them. College and university students are not currently eligible for Canva Education.
How long does verification take, and how long does access last?
Canva says it reviews document applications within 48 hours, but its Help Center describes the process without promising a decision time for an individual application. Email-domain verification may provide access right away when the domain is recognized. After approval, Canva says access lasts while the teacher or organization remains active and eligible; it prompts Canva Education users to re-verify credentials every three years. These timings and policies are Canva’s published guidance, checked on October 7, 2026, and may change.

Can you upgrade an existing Canva account?
Yes. Sign in to your existing account, open Canva’s Education signup, and complete the verification flow. Canva says your existing designs transfer when you upgrade.
