On a Samsung Galaxy phone, start in My Files > Downloads. If the file is not there, search by its name, check Recent files and other file categories, then consider which app downloaded it and where it saves files. Some offline music and video can only be opened inside the app that downloaded it.
Open the Downloads folder in My Files

Open My Files. It may be in the Samsung folder or in the app drawer. To find it, swipe up from the Home screen to show your apps and search for “My Files.”

Tap Downloads. This is the first place to look for files saved from a browser or another app.

Labels and screen layouts can differ by Galaxy model, software version, app version, and market. Follow the labels shown on your device if they differ from these directions.

Find a download that is not in Downloads
Search for the filename
In My Files, tap Search and enter all or part of the filename if you know it. Searching can help locate a file saved in a different folder.
Check Recent files and file categories
Look in Recent files and browse categories that fit the item, such as images, documents, or audio. Samsung’s guidance also recommends checking these views when you are unsure where a file was saved.

Check the app and storage location
The file’s location depends on its type and the app used to download it. Samsung UK states: “The location of your downloaded files will depend on the type of file you have downloaded and the app that you used to download it.” Some apps save items in their own folders; protected offline video or music may only be accessible inside the app that downloaded it.

If the file is still missing
The download may not have completed
If a new file never appeared, check the app or browser’s download status or notifications to see whether the transfer finished. If it is still pending or failed, check your internet connection and available storage. A website may also prevent downloads from starting. Samsung recommends downloading only from trusted websites.
A Google image is missing
For an image downloaded from the Google app, Samsung UK specifically recommends checking storage permissions if the image cannot be found. This applies to that case; it is not a general fix for every missing file.

You may be looking for an app-only download
Streaming services and other apps may protect offline media rather than save it as a normal file you can browse. Open the app that downloaded the item and look for its downloads or offline section.
You may be looking for a deleted file
Samsung’s regional guidance describes Recycle Bin or Trash features differently. Do not assume there is one recovery path or retention period for every Galaxy device; check the instructions for your model, software version, and region.

Use the download source to narrow the search
When you do not know where to look next, use these clues to guide the search:

Downloading app: Start with My Files, then check the app’s own folders or its in-app downloads area.

File type: Check the matching file category, such as images or documents, as well as Recent files.

Completion status: If the item never appeared, confirm the download finished before continuing to search.
