It depends on which Verizon Stream TV you have. The second-generation device requires Wi-Fi for setup and internet streaming. The original model can connect to the internet by Ethernet instead. Neither model requires Verizon home internet for general streaming, though Verizon wireless or Fios Internet service is required to buy or rent Verizon video-on-demand titles.
How to tell which Stream TV model you have

Set up second-generation Stream TV on Wi-Fi
- Connect Stream TV to a TV or monitor with an HDMI connection, then connect the device to power.
- Follow the on-screen setup and select your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password, or use the Android phone setup option described in Verizon’s setup instructions.
- Sign in with a Google account when prompted.
If the Wi-Fi network uses host isolation, as some guest networks do, Verizon advises signing in with the remote rather than a phone or computer. That changes the sign-in method, not the requirement for an internet connection.
Use a wired connection with the original model
The original Stream TV has a rear Ethernet port and can use a supported wired internet connection. Follow Verizon’s wired connection setup flow; this option does not apply to second-generation hardware.

When a MoCA adapter may help
For a compatible home network, Verizon’s 2021 Stream TV MoCA Ethernet Adapter guide describes connecting Stream TV to a MoCA-capable router using coax or Ethernet. It is a possible accessory for an appropriate installation, not a requirement for every Stream TV owner. Confirm your model and network compatibility before purchasing; the 2021 guide does not establish current marketplace availability.
Does Stream TV require Verizon internet?
No. Verizon says Stream TV works with almost any internet service. A Verizon wireless or Fios Internet account is specifically needed to purchase or rent Verizon VOD titles, not to use every streaming app. Verizon’s Stream TV device FAQs give Netflix, YouTube TV, and Disney+ as examples of services available through the device; app availability can change.

What else do you need?
- An internet connection: Wi-Fi for second-generation Stream TV; Wi-Fi or supported wiring for the original model.
- An HDMI display: Verizon specifies a TV or monitor with an HDMI connection.
- A Verizon account for VOD purchases or rentals: Verizon wireless or Fios Internet service is required for that feature.

Troubleshoot a connection problem
- Second-generation device will not connect: Check that you selected the intended Wi-Fi network and entered its password correctly.
- Account sign-in stalls on a guest network: If the network isolates devices, try signing in with the Stream TV remote as Verizon directs.
- You want Ethernet: Confirm that the unit is the original generation with a rear Ethernet port. Second-generation Stream TV does not offer wired internet connectivity.
