Yes—Android Auto supports navigation apps beyond Google Maps and Waze. Four alternatives with support documented by their developers are HERE WeGo, MapFactor Navigator, OsmAnd, and the TomTom app. Their offline options, costs, and in-car controls differ, and this evidence does not establish a verified fifth choice.
Which alternatives are documented for Android Auto?
| App | Offline use | Cost or access requirement | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| HERE WeGo | Offline mode must be selected in the app settings. If an online route loses connectivity and does not reconnect, HERE advises stopping navigation and restarting in offline mode. Source: HERE offline guidance | Not stated in the cited Android Auto guidance; check the current app and regional availability. | Start navigation in the phone app before connecting. Some changes, including adding stops or changing route preferences after navigation begins, are not compatible. The app must be downloaded from Google Play to appear in Android Auto. | MapFactor Navigator | MapFactor says Navigator 7 and later can provide directions using offline map data without an internet connection. Live traffic and some other features may need a network connection or premium tier. Source: MapFactor support, updated November 12, 2025 | MapFactor says Android Auto support is included at no extra charge in Navigator 7 and later, from Navigator FREE through Navigator PRO. Source: MapFactor support, updated November 12, 2025 | Its documented Android Auto feature list includes lane assistance, live traffic, alternative routes, 2D/3D views, and favorites. The product page lists vehicle categories including cars, motorcycles, motorhomes, and trucks. Source: MapFactor product page |
| OsmAnd | Its Android Auto documentation cautions that connection quality and data access can affect system quality; do not assume every feature works offline. | A paid app version or subscription is required for Android Auto use. Source: OsmAnd documentation | Choose the driving profile on the phone before connecting. The car display can show turn and route information, voice prompts, and 2D/3D map views; some settings and favorites must be configured on the phone first. Source: OsmAnd documentation |
| TomTom app | Offline-map details are not established by the cited Android Auto support article. | Plan pricing and regional feature availability are not stated in the cited article; check the current Android app in your country. | Complete onboarding in the phone app. Android Auto limits advanced settings and map interaction while driving. How should you choose?
If offline directions matter most
MapFactor explicitly documents directions from offline map data in Navigator 7 and later. HERE WeGo also documents offline navigation, but you need to select offline mode in the app settings; its guidance also gives a recovery path if an online route loses its connection and fails to reconnect. These are different setup conditions, not a controlled comparison of map coverage or route quality.
If you want to customize your driving profile
OsmAnd requires a paid version or subscription for Android Auto. Set the driving profile and any needed settings or favorites in the phone app before connecting. Its documentation describes turn information, voice prompts, and 2D/3D presentation, but does not establish that all features operate without data access.
If you need vehicle-specific routing
MapFactor lists categories beyond cars, including motorcycles, motorhomes, trucks, pedestrians, and cyclists. That list does not guarantee that every category or feature is available in every Android Auto configuration; check the current app and the relevant vehicle profile before relying on it.

If you prefer another established navigation app
TomTom documents Android Auto onboarding, but its in-car guidance is constrained: advanced settings and map interaction are limited while driving. Its cited support article does not settle current Android pricing or offline-map availability, so verify those details in your region before choosing it.
What to check before connecting to Android Auto
- Confirm that your car or head unit, phone, region, and app version support the setup you intend to use. Compatibility and feature behavior can vary.
- Install the app from the appropriate store. HERE specifically says its Google Play version is required for Android Auto to display.
- Complete phone-side setup before driving: start navigation in HERE WeGo, configure OsmAnd’s driving profile and relevant settings, or complete TomTom onboarding.
- Download or select offline maps and enable offline mode where the app requires it. Do not treat offline map guidance as proof that live traffic works offline.
- Check voice guidance before setting off. HERE notes that voice directions depend on an enabled and configured text-to-speech engine on the phone.
Why this list has four apps, not five
The developer documentation cited here supports four named alternatives. It does not verify a fifth app, so adding another merely to match a five-app headline would overstate what is established. There is also no controlled test here that ranks these apps for accuracy, traffic, or route quality; the useful distinctions are their documented requirements and features.
