Target RedCard is now called the Target Circle Card. Target says existing RedCard holders can keep using their cards with the same benefits. For new applicants, the main appeal is 5% off eligible Target purchases; it is not a blanket discount on every purchase, and the card offers fewer reasons to use it elsewhere unless Target offers you its Mastercard version.
How the Target Circle Card’s 5% discount works
Target says its debit card, credit card and Mastercard qualify for 5% off eligible purchases at Target stores and Target.com. The discount applies to the portion of a purchase charged to the Circle Card. If you split payment with another method, only the amount tendered to the Circle Card receives the discount.
Target calculates the discount after other discounts and after subtracting the value of promotional Target GiftCards received in the transaction. For example, if an eligible purchase is partly paid with another card, the Circle Card discount applies only to the Circle Card-paid share of the eligible total, not the entire basket.
The program rules can change: Target says it “reserves the right to discontinue or alter the terms of this program at any time.” Check the current Target Circle Card benefits and program rules before relying on a particular purchase qualifying.

Purchases that do not qualify
Target’s exclusions include prescriptions, over-the-counter items behind the pharmacy counter, Target clinic services, Target Optical eye exams and protection plans, Target GiftCards and certain prepaid or restricted gift cards. Target Optical glasses and contact lenses do qualify, according to Target’s help page.
Other excluded transactions include prior purchases, Target credit account payments, cash reloads and cash advances, Shipt and Target Circle 360 membership fees, Indiana alcohol purchases, wireless protection purchases and carrier deposits, and gift wrapping. Taxes, shipping, delivery, handling, and other fees or charges are also excluded. Target’s list may be updated, so consult its latest program terms for the full current exclusions.

Other benefits: returns, shipping and Circle 360
30 extra return days, with exceptions
Target says eligible Circle Card purchases get 30 additional days beyond the item’s standard return period. The extension does not cover Target Optical purchases, non-returnable items, contract mobile phones, or specified online SNAP purchases paid with EBT and a Circle Card. The normal return policy and item-specific exceptions still matter.
Free shipping on Target.com
Target advertises free standard shipping on Target.com purchases and free two-day shipping on eligible items. Two-day availability depends on the item, market, ZIP code and order cutoff; check the product page and checkout estimate for the delivery date that applies to your order.

Discounted Target Circle 360 membership
Target lists a lower Circle 360 membership price when a Circle Card is saved: $49 per year instead of $99, or $4.99 per month instead of $10.99, subject to membership terms. These fees do not receive the 5% discount, so this is a separate membership-price benefit.
Circle Credit Card vs. Target Mastercard
Target distinguishes the Target Circle Credit Card from the Target Mastercard. Both are credit products, and Target says the Mastercard adds rewards on some spending outside Target. The current Target card page lists 2% on dining and gas and 1% elsewhere outside Target for Mastercard holders; those rewards are exclusive to the Mastercard and are not available with the debit card.

Applicants do not simply choose which credit product to receive. Target says it considers applicants for the Mastercard based on creditworthiness; if an applicant does not qualify for it, Target considers them for the Target Circle Credit Card. Approval and the product offered are not guaranteed.

Current offer, fees and borrowing costs
Target’s current card page advertises $50 in Target Circle Rewards after at least $50 in qualifying purchases within 60 days of credit-card approval. It is a conditional offer subject to terms, can change, and does not apply to the debit card. Confirm the offer and qualifying-purchase rules on Target’s card page before applying.

Target states that the card has no annual or monthly fees. That does not establish the cost of carrying a balance. Review the live Target Circle Card rates and fees disclosure before applying; the APR is variable or otherwise governed by the disclosure and should not be inferred from the discount or promotional offer.
Is the Target Circle Card worth it?
The card is most compelling for shoppers who regularly buy eligible items at Target and can pay a credit-card balance in full. Its 5% discount directly lowers qualifying Target spending, while the extra return time and shipping benefits add convenience. If Target offers the Mastercard, its outside-Target rewards extend its usefulness, but only to the categories and rates Target specifies.
It is less compelling if much of your Target spending falls into excluded categories, you rarely shop at Target, or you might carry a balance. Compare the value on your own eligible purchases with the rewards, fees, APR and redemption rules of any general-purpose card you are considering; a discount is not worth interest charges incurred to earn it.

Already have a RedCard?
Target’s help page says existing RedCard holders do not need to take action: the card name changed to Target Circle Card, and existing cardholders can continue using their cards with the same benefits. See Target’s RedCard-to-Circle Card help page for its current guidance.
