No—Chase Freedom Flex does not currently offer 5% cash back specifically at Amazon and Whole Foods Market. Those merchants were part of a past Q2 2026 promotion. For October 1 through December 31, 2026, Chase’s rotating categories are grocery stores (excluding Walmart and Target), dining, and eligible American Red Cross donations. You must activate the offer, and the combined quarterly-category cap is $1,500.
What does Chase Freedom Flex earn in Q4 2026?
Chase announced that Freedom and Freedom Flex cardmembers can earn 5% cash back on eligible purchases in these categories from October 1 through December 31, 2026:
- Grocery stores, excluding Walmart and Target
- Dining purchases
- Eligible donations to the American Red Cross
The 5% applies to up to $1,500 in combined purchases across the quarterly categories. Activate by December 14, 2026. For a Red Cross donation to qualify, Chase directs cardmembers to donate through the organization’s official channels. The merchant must submit the charge by December 31 for it to count in the quarter. Chase’s Q4 2026 announcement has the offer terms.

Dining can earn up to 7% total
Freedom Flex’s recurring dining rate is 3%. In Q4, an eligible dining purchase can also qualify for the 5% quarterly offer, for up to 7% total: 1% base cash back, 4% additional quarterly cash back, and 2% additional dining cash back. Both offers have their own applicable rules and caps, so the combined rate is not unlimited.

How the quarterly cap and activation work
Chase describes the quarterly 5% as 1% base cash back plus 4% additional cash back. After $1,500 in combined eligible quarterly-category spending, the quarterly bonus ends; eligible purchases then earn the otherwise applicable rate, typically 1% if no other rate applies. Activation is required each quarter, and purchases must be submitted by the last day of that quarter. Chase’s Freedom Flex card page explains the recurring rewards and quarterly mechanics.
- Activate the Q4 offer through Chase by December 14, 2026.
- Use the card for qualifying grocery, dining, or eligible Red Cross purchases between October 1 and December 31.
- Track combined spending across all three categories against the $1,500 cap.
- Allow time for the merchant to submit the charge by December 31; a transaction date alone may not determine which quarter receives it.
Amazon and Whole Foods were Q2 categories, not Q4 categories
Chase’s April 1–June 30, 2026 promotion included Amazon, Whole Foods Market, Chase Travel, and Feeding America donations. That promotion has ended. Chase’s Q2 announcement covered eligible Amazon.com purchases, including digital downloads, gift cards, Amazon Fresh, Prime subscriptions, and marketplace items, as well as Whole Foods Market purchases, but also listed exclusions. It excluded Amazon Pay purchases, international Amazon and Whole Foods sites, and some third-party or in-store vendor transactions. See Chase’s Q2 2026 announcement for the historical terms.

Q4 includes a grocery-store category, but Chase’s Q4 announcement does not establish that Amazon or Whole Foods purchases qualify. Do not assume either merchant earns the rotating 5% merely because groceries are included.

Outside rotating categories, Chase’s current Freedom Flex page lists 5% cash back through Chase Travel, 3% at dining and drugstores, and 1% on other purchases. The page lists a $0 annual fee and a $250 new-cardmember bonus after $500 in purchases during the first three months for eligible applicants. Chase says offer details may vary by application channel and can change, so review the live terms before applying.

Is Chase Freedom Flex a good fit?
The card’s value depends on your spending and whether you will pay the statement balance in full. Consider these factors together:
- Category fit: Q4 is most useful if you spend meaningfully at qualifying grocery stores or restaurants, or plan eligible Red Cross donations.
- Activation: You need to remember to activate each quarter; missing the deadline means missing the quarterly bonus.
- Cap: The combined $1,500 limit means the category bonus will not continue indefinitely for high spenders.
- Everyday rewards: The listed Chase Travel, dining, and drugstore rates may matter outside the rotating categories.
- Cost and terms: Chase lists no annual fee, but confirm current offer and APR terms for your application channel.
Cash-back rewards do not make interest-bearing borrowing worthwhile. Compare the card with alternatives using your real spending mix and assume you can pay in full each month; carrying a balance can outweigh the value of rewards.

“Freedom is designed to help cardmembers earn more in the categories that fit their everyday lives,” said Wittney Rachlin, General Manager of Chase Freedom. That is Chase’s description of the program, not an independent assessment of the card’s value.
