There is no single best OVHcloud alternative for every workload. DigitalOcean, Hetzner, Vultr, Linode (Akamai Cloud), Scaleway, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and IBM Cloud are ten providers worth comparing. They are candidates, not interchangeable equivalents: the right fit depends on whether you need a straightforward virtual machine or a broader set of managed and enterprise cloud services.

How to choose among OVHcloud alternatives

Start with the workload rather than a provider ranking. A self-managed virtual machine, managed Kubernetes service, platform-as-a-service product, and serverless functions solve different operational problems. Decide which service model you need and how much infrastructure your team wants to administer.

  • Match the resources: Compare CPU type and allocation, memory, disk type and capacity, transfer allowance, public-IP charges, backups, and billing rules.
  • Check the region: Confirm availability in the location you need, including latency and data-residency requirements. Comparable region information for all ten providers is not established here.
  • Compare operations: Consider whether you need only virtual machines or also managed containers, databases, serverless services, or other managed products.
  • Read product-specific terms: Check the SLA and support plan for the exact service you would use. A provider’s advertised SLA is not the same as an independent uptime measurement.

10 providers to compare with OVHcloud

The providers below form a shortlist, not a ranking. Their inclusion in a general cloud-provider comparison does not establish that each matches OVHcloud’s services, pricing, geographic coverage, or suitability for a particular workload.

  1. DigitalOcean — Consider it when you want to evaluate virtual machines alongside managed containers, platform-as-a-service, and serverless options. Its official documentation covers these compute categories. Its entry Droplet provides a concrete example for comparing a small VM, but it should not be treated as a like-for-like price comparison with other providers.
  2. Hetzner — Include it in a shortlist for cloud-provider comparison. Verify the current product, region, and billing details against your own requirements rather than assuming equivalence from its inclusion here.
  3. Vultr — Compare its current virtual-machine options and terms with the resources and locations your workload requires.
  4. Linode (Akamai Cloud) — Assess its current cloud offerings and operational fit for the workload; confirm current product names and terms before choosing.
  5. Scaleway — Check its available services and regions against your needs, especially if geography or a managed service is a deciding factor.
  6. Amazon Web Services (AWS) — Evaluate it when the question is not only where to run a VM, but also which broader cloud services and operating model you need.
  7. Microsoft Azure — Compare the specific compute product, region, support, and service terms that would apply to your deployment.
  8. Google Cloud Platform — Assess its current compute and managed-service options against the architecture you plan to run.
  9. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure — Compare the relevant products and current terms for your workload instead of relying on a general provider label.
  10. IBM Cloud — Include it when assessing broader cloud-service needs, and verify the availability and terms of the specific product you intend to use.

Use DigitalOcean’s published figures carefully

DigitalOcean lists a Basic Droplet at $4 per month with 1 vCPU, 512 MiB of memory, 10 GiB SSD storage, and 500 GiB of transfer. The pricing page was marked last verified 25 August 2026. This is one provider’s entry plan, not a market-wide benchmark; compare it only with plans that offer comparable resources and allowances. DigitalOcean Droplet pricing.

Bundled plans have a monthly cap, while v5 Droplets are billed for actual usage without a monthly cap, according to its pricing documentation marked last verified 25 August 2026. Check the current rules for the plan you select. DigitalOcean Droplet pricing documentation.

DigitalOcean advertises a 99.99% Droplet SLA on its product page, accessed 7 October 2026. That is a vendor-stated service-level figure, not independently measured uptime and not a comparison with other providers’ contractual terms. DigitalOcean Droplets.

Build a fair comparison before switching

  1. Define the service: Write down whether you need a self-managed VM, managed containers, a platform service, or serverless compute.
  2. Set a minimum configuration: Record the CPU, memory, storage type and capacity, and transfer needed for the application.
  3. Price the full setup: Include public IPs, backups, transfer, and billing rules rather than comparing advertised base prices alone.
  4. Filter by geography: Confirm that the specific product is offered in a suitable region and meets your placement requirements.
  5. Review operating obligations: Determine what your team must administer and which services, if any, are managed by the provider.
  6. Read the applicable terms: Verify the product’s current SLA and support plan, then compare like with like.

DigitalOcean’s documentation describes Droplets as Linux-based virtual machines (VMs). DigitalOcean Droplets documentation. Its product documentation also covers managed containers, platform-as-a-service, and serverless offerings, but that does not establish a complete feature-by-feature comparison with the other providers.
