There isn’t one best microSD card for every tablet. First confirm that your exact tablet model has a microSD slot and supports the card’s format and capacity. For a general-purpose option, Samsung EVO Plus is a reasonable pick when the tablet supports the capacity you want; compare alternatives by storage needs, workload and current price rather than peak speed claims.
Check your tablet before choosing a card
Look up the specifications for your exact tablet model, not just its product family. Confirm three things: that it has a microSD slot, which card format it accepts, and the maximum capacity it supports. A card maker’s broad statement that a card is compatible with Android tablets does not establish compatibility with every tablet.
- Find the tablet’s full model name or number in its settings, on the device, or on its original packaging.
- Check the tablet manufacturer’s specifications or support documentation for microSD support, accepted format and maximum capacity.
- Choose a card that meets those limits, then confirm the ratings for the exact capacity you plan to buy.
Samsung’s EVO Plus microSD card is marketed for Android tablets, but the tablet’s own specifications determine whether a particular capacity will work.

Top microSD card picks for a tablet
These options are worth comparing, but none is established as a universal winner. Prices and availability change, and the card’s ratings do not guarantee the same performance in a tablet.

| Card | What the cited information supports | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung EVO Plus | Samsung lists Android tablet compatibility and a 64GB-to-1TB lineup in its 2024 announcement. Ratings differ by capacity. | Verify tablet capacity support and the exact SKU’s ratings. Suitable as a general-purpose candidate when compatible. |
| SanDisk Extreme A2 | Digital Camera World’s 2026 guide lists it as UHS-I, U3, V30 and A2. The guide reports a peak read result of 167.4MB/s and peak write result of 67.5MB/s in its test table. | Those are guide test results, not tablet-specific outcomes. Check capacity, price and whether the tablet can use its performance. |
| Lexar Professional Silver Plus | The same guide lists and tests it as UHS-I, U3, V30 and A2, and lists availability up to 1TB. | Compare the chosen capacity’s write rating and price; guide results do not establish tablet performance. |
| PNY Pro Elite Prime | The guide lists and tests the card, including a 1.5TB option. | Confirm the exact tablet supports that capacity before purchase. |
| Samsung EVO Select | The guide lists it as a budget option; its review discussion concerns phone and dash-camera use, not tablet testing. | Consider it for basic storage only after checking compatibility; the cited material does not establish it as a demanding-video pick. |
Choose capacity for what you will store
Estimate the space needed for offline video, photos, music and other files, then stay within the tablet’s stated capacity ceiling. Samsung’s 2024 EVO Plus lineup spans 64GB to 1TB, but that describes card options—not what every tablet can accept. Don’t buy a larger card on the assumption that a newer or similarly named tablet supports it.
Capacity can also affect the card’s advertised ratings. Samsung specifies the 64GB EVO Plus as U1, V10 and A1; higher-capacity versions are listed as U3, V30 and A2. Check the specification for the exact capacity rather than applying the ratings of one version to the whole range.

Understand speed labels and advertised rates
Speed-class labels describe different minimum performance characteristics; they do not promise that a tablet will reach a card’s advertised maximum or support running apps from removable storage.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- A1 or A2: Application Performance Class labels. Samsung describes A2 in terms of minimum random read and write performance.
- U1 or U3: UHS Speed Class labels for minimum sequential write performance; U3 indicates a higher minimum than U1.
- V10 or V30: Video Speed Class labels for minimum sequential write performance, useful when considering sustained video recording or writing.
Samsung advertised EVO Plus transfer speeds of up to 160MB/s in 2024, while noting that actual results vary by capacity and host device. Its manufacturer performance claims are based on internal testing, not a guarantee of in-tablet speed. Digital Camera World’s reported SanDisk Extreme A2 results likewise come from its guide’s test setup, not a tablet test.

When a higher-rated card is worth considering
For storing files that are read occasionally, prioritize compatibility, capacity and value. If you regularly record or move large video files, a card with stronger sustained-write ratings may be useful, provided the tablet and its interface can take advantage of them. For app storage, first confirm that the tablet and operating system allow apps to be installed or moved to a microSD card; an A2 label alone does not establish that feature.
Samsung also advertised the PRO Plus with sequential speeds of up to 180MB/s read and 130MB/s write in 2024. These are manufacturer claims based on internal testing, not tablet-specific results. The available evidence does not establish that a tablet will realize those rates, so pay for a higher-rated card only when its capacity and workload advantages matter to you.

Use a card reader only when transferring files
A USB microSD reader can be a convenient optional accessory for moving files between a card and a computer. It is not required to use a microSD card installed in a tablet.
