For Android cyclists, the right app depends on whether the priority is tracking and social features, route planning, navigation, offline maps, or training tools. Strava, komoot, Ride with GPS, Bikemap, and Map My Ride cover different combinations of those needs; none is the best choice for every rider. Check current plan limits, device compatibility, and privacy settings before relying on an app for a ride.

1. Strava: tracking with social and performance features
Strava combines cycling and other activity recording with route discovery and a social feed. Its listing also describes privacy controls. Features including route recommendations, live segments, training logs, and goals are subscription features, so do not assume all route-planning or analysis tools are included at no cost.
The Google Play listing was updated October 5, 2026, and warns that GPS performance can vary between devices. If a recorded route looks inaccurate, check the Android and device guidance rather than assuming the app will perform identically on every phone.

Device and GPS behavior
Check support for your particular bike computer, watch, sensor, or e-bike display rather than relying on a general compatibility claim. GPS results can vary by phone; Strava’s listing explicitly notes this variability. If you navigate using a phone, a handlebar mount is optional, not a requirement, and its fit and weather suitability depend on the mount and device.
Location privacy
Review location and activity visibility before recording, particularly for rides that start or end near home or work. Strava’s listing describes privacy controls; check the selected app’s current settings and understand which activities or routes are visible to other people.
Plans and feature limits
Subscription boundaries and prices can change by region and over time. Check the current listing or account screen for the features you intend to use, especially offline maps, route recommendations, heatmaps, and training analysis.
