Yes, Radeon drivers have real, officially documented bugs—but that does not prove AMD GPUs are broadly unreliable or that AMD drivers are worse than Nvidia’s. AMD’s Windows release notes name crashes, driver timeouts, stutter and visual corruption affecting particular games, features and hardware. They do not report how many users encounter those problems or provide a matched comparison with another GPU maker.
What AMD’s Windows driver notes actually show
AMD’s Adrenalin release notes are evidence that the company has known about specific problems at particular release points. The examples below show that the issues are not imaginary, but they should be read as issue disclosures—not as a measure of how common a failure is.
- Adrenalin 26.5.2: AMD lists intermittent crashes or driver timeouts in Battlefield 6 on Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, texture flicker or corruption in that game with AMD Record and Stream on some graphics products, and intermittent crashes in Blender on RX 7000 and newer, Subnautica 2, and Marvel Rivals on RX 9000. The notes also identify possible inactive FSR indicators on RX 9000. For the Blender and named game crashes, AMD points affected users to version 26.3.1 as a workaround. AMD Adrenalin 26.5.2 release notes.
- Adrenalin 25.9.1: Listed problems include intermittent crashes in The Last of Us Part II on RX 7900, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on RX 9000, and NBA 2K25 MyCareer on RX 9070; VR stutter on some RX 7000 systems; and a Cyberpunk 2077 crash or timeout when loading a saved game with path tracing enabled. AMD Adrenalin 25.9.1 release notes.
- Adrenalin 25.6.1: AMD notes stutter or low performance when alt-tabbing and streaming through Discord with multiple monitors, a Spider-Man 2 crash or timeout with ray tracing on RX 9060 XT, a first-launch crash in The Last of Us Part I on RX 9060 XT, and Cyberpunk 2077 crashes on some RX 7000 products. The list also includes VR stutter at certain refresh rates and other named game or Chromium video stutter cases. AMD Adrenalin 25.6.1 release notes.
- Adrenalin 24.12.1: AMD records an intermittent timeout or crash in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 on some AMD graphics products, including Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, and suggests enabling Variable Graphics Memory as a temporary measure. AMD Adrenalin 24.12.1 release notes.
These examples span several releases and different symptoms, but each is bounded by the affected product, game or workload AMD names. A release-note entry does not establish that every card in a listed family will fail, nor does it diagnose a particular user’s crash.
Do these issues mean AMD drivers are worse than Nvidia’s?
No conclusion about which vendor has more reliable drivers follows from these notes alone. AMD’s release notes identify known issues, but do not state how many users experience them. A count of bullet points is not a failure rate: vendors may disclose issues differently, and the notes do not provide equivalent testing across products.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
A meaningful comparison would need equivalent GPU generations, games, workloads and operating systems, plus measured failures per system-hour, issue severity, time to fix and support duration. The cited sources do not provide that matched dataset or a named statistic for Radeon driver failure frequency. So “AMD drivers are worse” remains unproven by this evidence; that is different from saying AMD has no driver problems.
Windows Radeon drivers and Linux amdgpu are different cases
The game-specific examples above come from Windows Adrenalin notes for Radeon graphics. They should not be merged with AMD’s Linux amdgpu 31.50.0 documentation as if both describe one universal driver experience.

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability

AMD says amdgpu 31.50.0 moves from a prior 6.19-based line to a Linux 7.x kernel base and targets customers using recent AMD Instinct compute platforms on supported Linux distributions. Its notes describe stability and memory-safety fixes intended to reduce hangs, crashes and resource leaks. That is relevant to this Linux compute-driver release, not a broad benchmark of Linux Radeon gaming reliability. AMD amdgpu 31.50.0 release notes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat Radeon owners should check when a driver problem occurs
Match the symptom to the release notes
Check AMD’s notes for the installed driver version and the specific GPU, game or workload involved. Known-issue lists change between releases, so a workaround documented for one version—such as AMD’s direction to use 26.3.1 for certain crashes in the 26.5.2 notes—is version-specific, not a general promise that downgrading will fix other problems.

Use the system maker’s driver on some laptops and all-in-ones
For processors with Radeon graphics in laptops and all-in-one PCs, AMD recommends OEM-provided drivers because the computer maker may customize and validate them for system-specific features. AMD advises installing the OEM package if its general AMD.com driver causes problems. AMD’s 26.5.2 notes explain its OEM-driver recommendation.
Do not assume every timeout is a GPU-driver fault
A driver timeout can be a symptom, but the release-note examples cannot identify the cause of an individual system’s failure. First compare the exact game, hardware, driver version and conditions with AMD’s documented issue; avoid treating a match—or a timeout message alone—as proof of a universal Radeon defect.

Windows 10 support needs a dated qualification
In a 1 November 2025 report, Tom’s Hardware quoted an AMD spokesperson saying that although a driver package did not specifically list Windows 10 support, the Adrenalin package continued to support Windows 10 through the Windows 11 installer. The spokesperson cited Windows 10’s end-of-life status as the reason it was not called out in that release. This is a statement reported in 2025, not a guarantee for every later driver version; check the release’s current compatibility information before installing. So, are AMD drivers actually bad?
AMD has documented real, sometimes serious driver bugs affecting named games, features and hardware. But those records establish the existence of particular issues—not their prevalence across Radeon users and not a statistical disadvantage versus Nvidia. The practical answer depends on the exact GPU, operating system, driver release and workload, especially for a laptop or all-in-one where the OEM driver may be the better fit.
