You can add a Known Traveler Number (KTN) to an Expedia flight after booking, but the change is generally made through the airline operating the flight—not through a universal Expedia KTN control. Find the airline and its confirmation reference in your Expedia itinerary, then use the airline’s reservation tools or contact its support. Before heading to the airport, confirm that your boarding pass shows the TSA PreCheck indicator.
Find the airline reservation details in Expedia

Open your Expedia trip itinerary and identify the airline operating each flight. For an itinerary with multiple carriers, check each flight separately.

Look for the airline confirmation reference, sometimes called the airline confirmation number or record locator. Expedia’s Manage Booking documentation describes itinerary retrieval and airline confirmation references, but it is developer documentation—not a guarantee that every Expedia consumer itinerary displays the same fields.

Add your KTN through the airline

Go to the operating airline’s website or app and retrieve the reservation using its confirmation reference and the traveler details requested.

Open the reservation’s traveler details or passenger information and enter the KTN in the Known Traveler Number field. Check that the full name and date of birth match the information associated with the traveler’s TSA PreCheck enrollment.

If you cannot retrieve the booking or the KTN field is missing or locked, contact the airline online or by phone and ask it to add the KTN to the existing reservation. TSA’s post-booking direction is to contact the airline to add a KTN.

Check that TSA PreCheck appears on your boarding pass
After the airline saves the change, refresh or reissue your boarding pass and look for the TSA PreCheck indicator. A KTN saved to a reservation does not by itself confirm lane access: TSA says eligible travelers need a boarding pass with the indicator to use the PreCheck lane. If it is absent, contact the airline to check the reservation and traveler details before relying on PreCheck at the checkpoint.
Why the steps can differ by airline
Expedia is where you can find the itinerary details; the airline’s reservation system handles the KTN update. The available controls depend on the carrier and how the booking is linked to its systems. For example, Southwest says a KTN added to a Rapid Rewards profile updates previously booked reservations linked to that account, and it offers a Manage Reservations option for bookings made through specified Southwest channels. That is a Southwest-specific process, not a general Expedia rule.

If you cannot update the reservation

Verify that you are using the operating airline’s confirmation reference rather than relying only on Expedia’s itinerary number.

Ask the airline to retrieve the booking and add the KTN if its self-service tools do not work.

If the airline cannot locate or update the itinerary, use Expedia’s official Help Center or booking support for assistance with the Expedia reservation. Avoid phone numbers from unofficial search results.
