To find your Windows 11 build number, press Windows logo key + R, enter winver, and press Enter. The About Windows dialog shows the installed Windows version and build. You can also check Settings > System > About.
Find the build number with winver
- Press Windows logo key + R to open Run.
- Type
winver. - Press Enter.
- In the About Windows dialog, note the build value. Record the version too if it is requested.
Microsoft confirms that winver displays Windows version and build information. You can also type winver in taskbar search and select the result. Microsoft’s activation help describes the information shown by winver, and Microsoft’s Windows Update Assistant instructions also explain how to find it through search.
Check Windows specifications in Settings
- Right-click Start and select Settings.
- Choose System, then About.
- Scroll to Windows specifications and check the displayed Windows details. Microsoft identifies this section as the place to find your edition and version; its Insider guidance also points to About for build information.

Know which Windows number to report
- Edition identifies the product edition, such as Home or Pro.
- Version identifies the Windows release or feature-version label.
- OS build is the numeric identifier for the installed build.
Match the label in the support request. If it asks for “OS build,” provide the complete OS build value rather than only “Home,” “Pro,” or the version label. Copy all displayed digits so support can identify the build precisely.

If winver does not appear in search
Open Run with Windows logo key + R, type winver, and press Enter. If an organization manages the PC or its support process requests a screenshot, follow that organization’s directions; the steps above are the general Windows lookup routes.
