To connect a Turtle Beach headset to Xbox, first identify its exact model: many wired Recon headsets plug into the controller, the Stealth 600 for Xbox One pairs directly with that console, and Recon Air uses a transmitter attached to the controller. The steps are not interchangeable. Once connected, use Xbox audio controls to adjust headset volume and chat balance, and enable Windows Sonic only if your model supports it.
Start with the headset model
Check the model name on the headset, packaging, or its documentation before connecting it. Turtle Beach’s setup guides describe different Xbox connection methods for different products. The examples below are specific to the named models; they should not be treated as instructions for every Turtle Beach headset.
| Headset example | Connection method | Console scope in the cited guide |
|---|---|---|
| Recon 70, Recon 50X, Recon 500, Recon 200, Recon 200 Gen 2 | Connect the headset to the Xbox controller | The Recon 70 guide explicitly covers Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The other cited guides give model-specific Xbox setup instructions. |
| Stealth 600 for Xbox One | Pair the headset directly with the console | Stealth 600 for Xbox One; do not assume these steps apply to later Stealth models or Xbox Series consoles. |
| Recon Air for Xbox | Connect its transmitter to the controller | Recon Air for Xbox |
See Turtle Beach’s Recon 70 Xbox setup, Recon 50X Xbox setup, Recon 500 Xbox setup, and Recon 200 Gen 2 Xbox setup for the exact model.
Connect a wired Recon headset to the controller
For the Recon 70, Recon 50X, Recon 500, Recon 200, and Recon 200 Gen 2, the cited Turtle Beach Xbox setup guides direct users to connect the headset to the controller. The menu label used to open sound controls may appear as “Audio,” “Audio & Music,” or a speaker icon, depending on the guide and interface.

- Comfortable Lightweight Headset Design
- Adjustable High Sensitivity Mic
- Surround Sound Ready for Xbox
- Versatile Compatibility Across Platforms
- 40mm Speakers for Superior Sound
- Plug the headset’s connector into the Xbox controller’s headset jack.
- Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the guide. Turtle Beach’s Recon 70 instructions say, “With the headset plugged into the controller, press the Xbox button on your controller.”
- Open the audio controls, using the Audio, Audio & Music, or speaker option shown on your Xbox.
- Adjust Headset Volume, Headset Chat Mixer, and Mic Monitor to suit your preference. These controls affect listening level, the balance between game and chat audio, and how much of your own microphone you hear.
For the Recon 70, Turtle Beach recommends maximum Headset Volume, a middle Headset Chat Mixer setting, and a preferred Mic Monitor level. Treat those as manufacturer guidance for that model, not required settings for all headsets or listeners.
Pair the Stealth 600 for Xbox One directly
The cited pairing instructions are specifically for the Stealth 600 for Xbox One. They describe pairing the headset directly with an Xbox One console, rather than plugging it into the controller. Follow the Stealth 600 for Xbox One pairing instructions for the sequence for your headset. The location of the pairing button differs among Xbox One console models, so check the instructions for your exact console. Do not apply this procedure to a later Stealth headset or an Xbox Series console without a guide that confirms compatibility.

Set up Recon Air with its transmitter
Recon Air for Xbox uses a transmitter connected to the controller’s extension port and aux jack. According to Turtle Beach’s Recon Air Xbox setup guide, the headset and transmitter pair automatically when powered on. Connect the transmitter as directed by the model guide, then power on the headset and check that the pairing succeeds.

Recon Air can also pair with a mobile device over Bluetooth, but it plays only one audio source at a time. If a Bluetooth call takes over, Xbox audio is unavailable until the call ends.

Adjust audio and optional Windows Sonic
After a wired Recon headset is connected, use the Xbox audio controls to set headset volume, game-and-chat balance, and microphone monitoring. The right levels depend on your preference; the setup guides do not require a single setting for everyone.
For the Recon 70, Recon 50X, and Recon 500, Turtle Beach describes Windows Sonic for Headphones as an optional headset format. On Xbox, open Profile & System > Settings > General > Volume & Audio Output, then set Headset Format to Windows Sonic for Headphones if you want to use it. Other models may have different instructions or supported formats, so check the guide for your headset.

Troubleshoot by connection type
- Wired Recon: no audio or chat controls: Confirm the headset is plugged into the controller, then reopen the Xbox audio controls and check headset volume and chat balance. Adjust Mic Monitor if you want to change how much of your own voice you hear.
- Stealth 600 for Xbox One: pairing does not complete: Check the pairing-button location for your specific Xbox One model and follow the model’s pairing guide.
- Recon Air: no console connection: Confirm the transmitter is connected to the controller’s extension port and aux jack, and check that the powered headset and transmitter have paired.
- Windows Sonic is not selected: Revisit Volume & Audio Output and check the Headset Format setting, using the instructions for your exact model.
- Still not working: Consult the support page for the exact headset model. These setup instructions do not cover every possible audio, microphone, firmware, or controller-jack fault, so a connection step alone cannot be assumed to fix all failures.
