To download files from a Samsung phone to a computer, connect the unlocked Galaxy with a USB data cable, allow access on the phone, then copy the files using File Explorer on Windows or Finder in Samsung’s Mac instructions. This is a file copy—not a web download—and it does not require uploading files to cloud storage.
Copy files over USB
On Windows

Unlock your Galaxy phone and connect it to the computer with a USB cable that supports data. Depending on the devices, you may need a compatible adapter or a different cable. Samsung’s USB transfer instructions explain the connection steps.

If the phone asks whether to allow access to phone data, tap Allow.

If the phone is charging but not offering its files, open the USB notification and choose Transferring files or MTP. The exact wording can vary by device, software and region.

Open File Explorer on the computer, select the Galaxy phone, and browse its internal storage. Copy the files you want into a folder on the computer. Common locations include
DCIM/Camerafor camera photos and videos,Downloadfor downloaded files, andDocumentsfor documents. Samsung Australia lists these locations in its photo-transfer guidance.
On Mac

Unlock the phone, connect it with a data-capable cable and approve the access prompt if it appears.

Samsung’s Mac transfer guide instructs users to open Finder, select the phone under Devices, and drag files to a folder on the Mac.

Wait for the copy to finish, then eject the phone if the operating system offers that option before disconnecting it.

Mac recognition and menus can vary across Mac configurations, so the Finder steps are not guaranteed to work identically on every setup.
Find files that are not in the usual folders
Files saved by messaging, editing or other apps may not be in DCIM/Camera. To locate a photo or video on the phone, open it in Samsung Gallery, swipe up and check the Path field. Samsung Australia describes this method in its Galaxy file-location guidance.

If the computer charges the phone but shows no files

Open the USB notification and switch from charging to Transferring files or MTP, if available.

Try another cable: some cables provide power but do not support data transfer.

Connect the phone directly to a computer port rather than through a hub. Samsung Australia recommends checking both the cable and connection path in its troubleshooting guidance.
Choose another transfer method when USB is not convenient

Copying, moving and transfer limits
When you use copy-and-paste or drag-and-copy, the original file remains on the phone. Moving a file is a different operation and may remove it from its original location. Samsung notes that USB transfer can work in either direction, so check whether the operation is set to copy or move before confirming. Wait until transfers finish before disconnecting, and safely eject or unmount the phone when the computer offers that option. Samsung’s USB guidance.
For the drag-and-drop method described on Samsung US Support, the stated limit is up to 100 files per operation and a maximum of 512 MB per file; the reviewed page does not state a year. These limits apply to that method, not to all transfer methods or Galaxy devices. Samsung US Support.
Samsung support pages are regional: the Australia instructions are intended for Australian-variant Galaxy devices, while the cited US pages describe US guidance. Menu labels, features and compatibility can vary by model, software version and region.
