Sanity and WordPress.com charge for different things. Sanity Growth costs $15 per billable non-viewer seat per month, before usage overages or add-ons. WordPress.com’s lowest paid starting price is $2.75 per month when billed every three years, but that is a monthly equivalent for a prepaid term—not the full checkout charge. WordPress.com includes hosting; Sanity pricing is built around project usage and team seats. The figures below are from the providers’ US pricing pages checked October 7, 2026. Verify current prices, taxes, billing term, and checkout and renewal totals before buying.

How much does Sanity cost per month?

Sanity lists three plan levels: Free at $0, Growth at $15 per seat per month, and Enterprise at custom pricing. Growth is billed per non-viewer seat; viewers are free on the listed plans. Its published maximum is 50 seats. Enterprise uses custom seat counts, datasets, and quotas. These are vendor-listed US pricing figures, not a guarantee of the final amount for every project or region. Sanity pricing

Estimate Growth by billable seats

Growth team size Seat-fee estimate per month Assumptions
5 billable users $75 $15 × 5; excludes overages, add-ons, and applicable taxes.
10 billable users $150 $15 × 10; excludes overages, add-ons, and applicable taxes.

These calculations are useful starting points, not total-cost quotes. A team with more than 50 seats, or one needing custom quotas or datasets, should ask Sanity about Enterprise pricing.

Included quotas and the risk of overages

Sanity Free includes up to 20 seats, two public datasets, 10,000 documents, 1 million API CDN requests per month, 250,000 API requests per month, 100 GB of assets, and 100 GB monthly bandwidth. Growth supports up to 50 seats and includes two public or private datasets, along with higher document and attribute limits and defined allowances for requests, assets, and bandwidth. Check the current pricing comparison for exact Growth quotas before estimating a project’s usage. Sanity pricing

On paid projects, usage above included quotas can add to the bill. The pricing comparison lists these Growth overage rates:

  • $1 per additional 250,000 API CDN requests.
  • $1 per additional 25,000 API requests.
  • $0.50 per additional 1 GB of assets.
  • $0.30 per additional 1 GB of bandwidth.

Sanity also lists Growth add-ons of $799 per month for Dedicated Support, $299 per month for Increased quota, and $999 per additional dataset per month. These are significant relative to the seat fee: a project that needs one of them should include it in its estimate, rather than treating the $15 rate as its whole cost. Confirm current rates in the pricing table and the project’s Plan tab. Sanity pricing

When a Sanity cap can affect the project

Sanity bills paid projects monthly in advance on calendar months; plan changes and cancellation are prorated. Paid projects with a payment method can incur overage charges above included quotas. Free and Growth Trial projects instead have hard caps, with no overage charges. Depending on the resource, reaching a cap can block document creation, asset uploads, or public API/CDN service until usage resets or the project is upgraded. Sanity billing documentation

What does WordPress.com cost, and what is the real checkout amount?

WordPress.com offers Free, Personal, Premium, Business, and Commerce plans. Its pricing page shows monthly equivalents for different billing terms; its FAQ says Personal starts at $2.75 per month when billed every three years, or $4 per month when billed annually. Because a multi-year plan is prepaid, multiply the displayed monthly equivalent by the billing term to understand the initial commitment—and check the actual checkout total and renewal amount. The page’s renewal-price field was not available as a fixed figure when checked, so a specific renewal total cannot be stated here. Prices are in US dollars and exclude taxes; country and term can change what you pay. WordPress.com pricing

A monthly equivalent is a comparison aid, not necessarily a month-to-month payment option. Before choosing a plan, inspect the amount due now, the length of the prepaid term, renewal price, and applicable taxes at checkout.

Does WordPress.com include hosting, and which plan allows plugins?

WordPress.com says hosting is included with every plan. Its Free plan uses a WordPress.com subdomain and includes 1 GB storage, but does not include a custom domain, plugin installation, or ad-free browsing. Paid plans include plugin installation, including Personal; Business is not required merely to add plugins. Paid plans also include a free domain for the first year on annual or multi-year terms, ad-free browsing, and other bundled services, according to the pricing FAQ. WordPress.com pricing

Business and Commerce add higher-level features. WordPress.com describes both as including developer tools, priority 24/7 support, 50 GB storage, and premium themes. Commerce adds a more integrated WooCommerce offering and e-commerce features. Review the current plan table for the exact features relevant to your site; the listed bundle is not a substitute for checking a particular requirement. WordPress.com pricing

Is Sanity cheaper than WordPress.com?

There is no like-for-like answer from the starting prices alone. WordPress.com is a hosted website platform with plan-based pricing. Sanity charges for Growth seats and may also charge for usage above quotas or for add-ons. WordPress.com’s displayed monthly amount depends on its billing term, while Sanity Growth’s listed seat rate is monthly. For an apples-to-apples budget, use the same period—such as one year—and compare what each service actually supplies.

Cost question Sanity WordPress.com
What is the main price unit? Growth: $15 per non-viewer seat per month; viewers are free. Plan price per site/service, with displayed monthly equivalents varying by billing term.
What is included at no charge? Free plan: up to 20 seats, two public datasets, and published usage quotas. Free plan: WordPress.com subdomain and 1 GB storage; no custom domain, plugin installation, or ad-free browsing.
Can usage raise the bill? Yes. Paid projects can incur usage overages; Growth add-ons can also be substantial. The cited page emphasizes plan and term pricing; confirm selected plan, checkout amount, taxes, and renewal total.
Is hosting included? The cited Sanity pricing information describes project plans and quotas; it does not establish a WordPress-style hosted website bundle. Yes, WordPress.com says hosting is included with every plan.
What if the project needs enterprise-scale terms? Enterprise uses custom pricing, seats, datasets, and quotas. The pricing page lists plans through Commerce; confirm whether the current plan table meets the site’s requirements.

WordPress.com is not the same purchase as self-hosted WordPress.org. WordPress.com packages hosting with its plans; WordPress.org requires you to arrange hosting and maintenance separately. The relevant comparison here is therefore between the two complete service models, not just between software names.

How to estimate your cost at your scale

  1. Choose the same time horizon. For a one-year comparison, use Sanity’s monthly seat estimate across 12 months, then add expected overages and add-ons. For WordPress.com, compare the full checkout payment and renewal amount for the chosen term—not only the monthly equivalent.
  2. Count Sanity’s billable users. Multiply Growth’s $15 monthly rate by the number of non-viewer seats. Do not count free viewers as paid seats.
  3. Check whether Sanity’s included usage fits. Estimate documents, API and CDN requests, assets, bandwidth, and dataset needs against the current plan table. Add likely overages or any required add-on to the estimate.
  4. Account for the consequence of a cap. A Free or Growth Trial project has hard limits rather than paid overages; decide whether a quota-limited interruption is acceptable. For a paid project, budget for possible overage charges.
  5. Identify the hosted features you need. For WordPress.com, compare the plan’s hosting, storage, domain, plugin, support, developer, or commerce features with your requirements. Plugin installation alone does not require Business.
  6. Verify the final amount before committing. Check the provider’s current plan page and, for WordPress.com, checkout and renewal totals for your country and term. Sanity project owners should also confirm quotas and billing details in the Plan tab.

The right choice depends on operating model as much as price: Sanity’s seat-based editorial collaboration and usage exposure may suit a team building around a content platform, while WordPress.com bundles a hosted website and plan-specific site features. Compare the services you need and the costs they actually trigger, not the smallest number visible on either pricing page.
