To change a row’s height in desktop Word, click in that row, open Table Layout, and enter a measurement in Cell Size > Table Row Height. For a visual adjustment, drag the row boundary; to make selected rows equal in height, use Distribute Rows.
Set a specific row height in desktop Word

Click in a cell in the row you want to change. To resize several rows together, select those rows first.

Open the contextual Table Layout tab, which appears when the insertion point is in a table.

In Cell Size, enter the measurement in Table Row Height. Microsoft documents this method for Word for Microsoft 365, Word 2024, Word 2021, Word 2019, and Word 2016. See Microsoft’s instructions for resizing a table, column, or row.

You can also right-click in the row and choose Table Properties, then open the Row tab. Under Size, select Specify height, enter a value, and choose the row-height behavior. Microsoft describes this route in its guidance on allowing table cells to expand with contents.
Resize a row by dragging
Move the pointer over the boundary between the row and the one below it. When the resize pointer appears, drag the boundary up or down. For a more controlled adjustment, select a cell and drag the row markers on the ruler; hold Alt while dragging to see the exact measurement on the ruler, as Microsoft explains in its row-resizing instructions.

Make selected rows the same height
Select the rows you want to equalize, then choose Table Layout > Distribute Rows. Word makes the selected rows the same size. This is useful when uniformity matters; it does not set one particular measurement for a row.

Word adjusts row height to fit content until a manual height is set. If added text is clipped or the row no longer grows, an exact height may be restricting it. Open Table Properties > Row, select Specify height, and set Row height is to At least. That allows the row to expand as needed; Microsoft notes that cells with an exact row height do not expand as content is added. See its instructions for cell expansion.

Change row height in Word for Mac or mobile
Word for Mac
Select the table to reveal the contextual Layout tab, then set the row height there. Click in one row to adjust it, or select several rows and choose Distribute Rows to make them equal. See Microsoft’s resizing guidance.
Word on a mobile device
On supported iPad, iPhone, Android, and Windows tablet versions, tap above a column or in front of a row, then drag the handles to resize. The exact controls can vary by device and app version. Microsoft’s resizing instructions cover these mobile controls.
