If you mean taking a photo without touching the phone, enable Voice commands or Show palm in the Samsung Camera app’s Shooting methods settings. If you mean a rapid series of frames, use Burst Shot on a supported Galaxy model; that uses a shutter-control gesture rather than hands-free activation. A timer delays a shot, while Single Take creates a mix of photos and video clips.
Take a photo without touching your Samsung phone
Samsung’s built-in voice and palm controls can trigger the camera after you have positioned the phone. For a group photo, you can prop it up or use a stand so the camera is aimed where you want it. The labels and menu layout vary by Galaxy model and software version.
- Open Camera.
- Open Settings. On some versions, tap the four-dot Quick controls button first, then tap the Settings icon.
- Tap Shooting methods.
- Turn on Voice commands to trigger a capture with a preset phrase, such as “Smile,” “Cheese,” or “Capture.” Alternatively, turn on Show palm, then hold your palm up where the camera can see it to trigger the shot.
These methods are intended for hands-free photos, including group shots. Samsung’s instructions and available controls can differ by model; if the menu or option is missing, check the support information for your exact Galaxy device. Use Burst Shot for a rapid series of pictures
Burst Shot captures consecutive frames, which is useful for fast action or when you want to choose the best expression from a sequence. On supported Galaxy models, look in Camera > Settings > Swipe Shutter button to and choose the burst-shot option. The exact setting and gesture depend on the model and software; some versions also offer a GIF option there.

Burst Shot is not hands-free: starting it requires a swipe on the shutter control. Samsung’s guidance for recent Galaxy models, including the Galaxy S25 family and Galaxy Z Flip6, documents the control for supported devices. If you do not see it, consult the instructions for your model.
Choose the right feature: timer, Burst Shot, or Single Take

Use Single Take when you want different results from one scene
Single Take is separate from both hands-free triggering and a conventional burst. On supported devices, open Camera > More > Single Take and start a capture session. The feature produces a variety of still images and video clips; the available editing options differ by model. See Samsung’s Single Take instructions for the workflow supported on your device.

If a setting is missing
- Check Camera > Settings > Shooting methods for Voice commands and Show palm.
- For burst capture, look for Camera > Settings > Swipe Shutter button to.
- If the menu name or option is different or absent, use the Samsung support page for your exact model. Features and labels can vary by device, software version, region, and carrier software.
A floating shutter button or a configured volume button may offer another way to trigger capture on some models. They are not fully hands-free: you still have to touch the phone.
