The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 share a listed maximum CPU clock of 2.4 GHz and a 4 nm process, but Qualcomm’s published specifications give the 6 Gen 3 an edge in Wi-Fi support and peak cellular download speed. That does not prove it is faster overall: the available benchmark figures are not from a matched, device-to-device test, and the 4 Gen 5’s gaming claims compare it with its own predecessor, not the 6 Gen 3.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 vs Snapdragon 4 Gen 5: specifications
The table compares capabilities listed on Qualcomm’s platform pages and product brief. They describe what a chip platform can support; a phone maker’s implementation determines which features a particular handset actually offers.
| Specification | Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 | Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Kryo, up to 2.4 GHz; product brief specifies four performance cores and four efficiency cores | Kryo, up to 2.4 GHz; core arrangement not stated on the cited product page |
| Process | 4 nm | 4 nm |
| Graphics | Adreno GPU; Qualcomm describes improvements over the prior 6-series generation | Adreno GPU; Qualcomm advertises a 77% GPU improvement over the previous generation |
| Gaming claim | No directly comparable 90 FPS claim established in the cited material | Qualcomm highlights support for 90 FPS gameplay |
| Peak cellular download | Up to 2.9 Gbps | Up to 2.8 Gbps |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi 6/6E listed | Wi-Fi 5 listed |
| Display | FHD+ up to 120 Hz listed in the product brief | The cited page highlights 90 FPS gameplay; a comparable display-refresh specification is not stated there |

Which chip is better?
For the connectivity specifications shown, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 has the advantage: it lists Wi-Fi 6/6E and a peak cellular download rate of 2.9 Gbps, compared with Wi-Fi 5 and up to 2.8 Gbps for Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. These are vendor-stated platform maximums, not typical real-world speeds. Actual Wi-Fi features and mobile data performance depend on the phone, network, carrier, and conditions.

- LIVE FAST. CHARGE FASTER: Focus more on the moment and less on your battery percentage with Galaxy A17 5G. Super Fast Charging powers up your battery so you can get back to life sooner.²
- MEMORIES MADE PICTURE PERFECT: Capture every angle in stunning clarity, from wide family photos to close-ups of friends, with the triple-lens camera on Galaxy A17 5G.
- NEED MORE STORAGE? WE HAVE YOU COVERED: With an improved 2TB of expandable storage, Galaxy A17 5G makes it easy to keep cherished photos, videos and important files readily accessible whenever you need them.³
- BUILT TO LAST: With an improved IP54 rating, Galaxy A17 5G is even more durable than before.⁴ It’s built to resist splashes and dust and comes with a stronger yet slimmer Gorilla Glass Victus front and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer back.
For CPU speed, the listed peak clock is tied at 2.4 GHz. The 6 Gen 3 brief gives a four-performance-core, four-efficiency-core configuration; Qualcomm’s cited 4 Gen 5 page does not state its core arrangement. Clock speed alone cannot establish which chip delivers better performance or battery life. Nor does the shared 4 nm process settle that question: phone cooling, software, memory, battery, and other device choices matter.
What do the gaming and GPU claims mean?
Snapdragon 4 Gen 5’s 90 FPS claim
Qualcomm says Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 supports 90 FPS gameplay. A platform capability does not mean every phone or game will run at 90 frames per second. The handset must have a suitable display and implementation, and the game must support the target frame rate.

- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Tracfone plan required, activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.
- CAMERA SYSTEM: Advanced 50MP Quad Pixel camera captures sharp, detailed photos and videos in any lighting condition
- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
The 77% GPU figure is not a head-to-head result
Qualcomm’s advertised 77% GPU improvement for the 4 Gen 5 is measured against its previous generation. The 6 Gen 3 page describes improvements over a previous 6-series generation. Because the baselines differ, neither claim establishes which GPU is faster between these two chips.
Display refresh rate and game frame rate are also different measures: the 6 Gen 3 product brief lists support for an FHD+ display up to 120 Hz, while the 4 Gen 5 page highlights 90 FPS gameplay. Neither figure alone predicts the frame rate a specific game will sustain on a retail phone.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 vs Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 benchmark results
The available results do not support naming a benchmark winner. Notebookcheck lists a Geekbench 6.7.1 single-core result of 976 points for Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, while 91mobiles describes an AnTuTu result for Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 as its highest recorded among tested devices. Those are different tests and sampling methods, not comparable scores.
A meaningful head-to-head would run the same benchmark version on named retail phones and disclose memory, firmware, cooling, and test conditions. No such matched comparison is established by these results. The listings are useful as individual reference points, not as proof that one chip is faster overall.

- Gaming: look for tests of the exact phone and games you use, including sustained performance and heat, not just a chipset-level FPS claim.
- Screen: verify the handset’s resolution and refresh rate; a platform’s display capability is not the phone’s actual panel specification.
- Battery and software: compare device-level battery capacity, power management, updates, and reviews. Chip process and peak clock do not determine battery life by themselves.
- Benchmarks: compare the same test and version on retail devices with similar conditions, and treat results from different phones or test methods as non-equivalent.
Release context: keep the generations separate
Qualcomm’s May 7, 2026 announcement introduced Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 alongside Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, and named OPPO, realme, and REDMI among planned makers of 4 Gen 5 devices for the second half of 2026. That announcement concerns Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, not Snapdragon 6 Gen 3; the two 6-series generations should not be conflated. The announcement does not by itself identify a retail phone using either chip in this comparison. Qualcomm’s May 7, 2026 announcement.
