Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 adds a sixth microphone and claims up to nine hours of battery life—one more hour than Gen 2. That is a measured update, not a major camera overhaul: both generations have a 12 MP camera, while Gen 3 adds 3K Ultra HD video in Meta’s listed specifications. Whether the changes justify the higher report-era US starting price depends mainly on how much you use the glasses for calls and how often you need to recharge.
What changed from Gen 2?
The main differences are the microphone array and Meta’s claimed battery runtime. PCMag’s September 24, 2026 report lists Gen 3 at a US starting price of $449, compared with $379 for Gen 2. Those are report-era starting prices, not a promise of current pricing or the price of every frame and lens combination.
| Feature | Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 | Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Microphones | Six, according to Meta and PCMag | Five, according to Meta and PCMag |
| Background-noise reduction | Meta claims the array cuts more than 90% of background noise; this is not an independent test result | Comparable reduction figure not stated in the cited sources |
| Battery life | Up to nine hours on one charge, per Meta | Up to eight hours on one charge, per Meta |
| US starting price | $449 in PCMag’s September 24, 2026 report | $379 in PCMag’s September 24, 2026 report |
| Camera and video | 12 MP still camera and 3K Ultra HD video, per Meta | 12 MP camera, per PCMag; comparable video resolution not stated in the cited sources |
How much better are the Gen 3 microphones?
Meta and Ray-Ban describe Gen 3’s six-microphone array as an upgrade over Gen 2’s five microphones. Meta says it cuts more than 90% of background noise, but the cited hands-on coverage does not independently measure that percentage or provide a controlled comparison against Gen 2.

In a brief hands-on session, PCMag Principal Reporter Michael Kan found that he could hear and be heard by the glasses in a noisy reception. That is a useful real-world observation, but it reflects one setting and one trial—not proof of performance in every crowded room, outdoors, or on every call.

How long does the battery last?
Meta lists up to nine hours on a charge for Gen 3, one hour more than its stated eight-hour figure for Gen 2. “Up to” is a maximum claim, not a runtime guarantee. Ray-Ban says actual battery life varies with use, configuration, settings, temperature, internet connectivity, and other factors. The cited sources do not provide a controlled endurance test showing how long either generation lasts under identical conditions.
What else is new—and what stayed the same?
Camera and video
Meta lists a 12 MP camera and 3K Ultra HD video for Gen 3. PCMag reports that the camera remains 12 MP, so the headline update is not a higher still-photo resolution. A built-in LED indicates when the glasses are capturing a photo or video; the cited sources do not establish that bystanders will always notice it.

Frames and fit
Meta lists Wayfarer, Aviator, and Zena styles, with 27 color and lens combinations, and describes a slimmer design with adjustable temple tips. Kan found the Aviator comfortable during his trial, though bulkier than ordinary glasses. That is one reporter’s short fit observation, not a long-term comfort assessment or a fit guarantee for other frame styles and faces.

Should you upgrade from Gen 2?
Gen 3 may make sense if…
- You regularly take calls in noisy places and want the newer microphone array, while understanding that the available hands-on evidence is limited to one reception setting.
- An extra hour of Meta’s claimed maximum battery life would be useful for your routine.
- You want the listed 3K Ultra HD video capability or prefer one of the Gen 3 frame and lens combinations.
Keeping Gen 2 may make sense if…
- Your current glasses meet your needs and neither the microphone change nor the claimed extra hour addresses a specific frustration.
- You are weighing the report-era $70 difference in US starting prices against incremental changes rather than a camera-resolution increase.
For a new buyer, Gen 3’s strongest case is improved communication hardware paired with a modestly higher claimed runtime. The available evidence does not establish a precise improvement in call quality or battery endurance in controlled, side-by-side testing.
