To let users uninstall an eligible Win32 app from the Windows Company Portal, open the app in the Intune admin center and set Allow available uninstall to Yes in its Program settings. This enables self-service for available apps; it does not give users a blanket option to remove every managed app. Apps with dependencies, or apps that are themselves dependencies, do not show the Company Portal uninstall option.

Configure self-service uninstall for a Win32 app

In the Intune admin center, open Apps, select Windows, then select the Win32 app you want to change. Open its properties, edit Program, and set Allow available uninstall to Yes. Save the change. Microsoft describes this setting as providing the uninstall option for users in Company Portal. Microsoft’s Win32 app configuration guide documents the setting and its behavior.

Check the uninstall command

The Win32 package must also have a valid uninstall command. Choose a command that matches the app’s installer and removes the app in the context used for deployment. For an MSI package, Microsoft gives msiexec /x with the app’s product GUID as an example; use the GUID for your own app, not a sample value from documentation.

Intune does not support environment-variable expansion in the Uninstall command. If your removal process needs environment variables, use an appropriate wrapper script and configure the command to invoke it.

Assign the app as Available

Self-service uninstall applies to available Win32 apps installed on demand by users. Assign the app with the Available for enrolled devices intent to the intended user or device group. Intune makes Available apps visible in Company Portal only when the signed-in user is the primary user who enrolled the device and the app applies to that device. See Microsoft’s app assignment guidance for assignment intents and eligibility.

How users uninstall the app

On Windows, the user opens Company Portal, selects Apps, chooses the app, and selects Uninstall. Microsoft’s Company Portal help notes that uninstall is available for some Win32 and Microsoft Store apps, not all apps.

Why the Uninstall option may be missing

Allow available uninstall is not enabled

Reopen the app’s Program settings and verify that Allow available uninstall is set to Yes. The option is off unless an administrator enables it.

The app has a dependency relationship

Intune does not show the uninstall option in Company Portal when the Win32 app has dependencies or is itself a dependent app. This restriction applies even if Allow available uninstall is set to Yes. Review the app’s dependency configuration before treating the missing button as a portal problem.

The app is not available to that user or device

Confirm the app is assigned as Available and that the signed-in Company Portal user is the primary user who enrolled the device. Also confirm the app applies to the device. Available assignments can target user or device groups, but the user’s portal visibility depends on those eligibility conditions.

Assignments have conflicting intents

Review every assignment that reaches the user or device, including group memberships. Intune resolves overlapping intents according to its assignment rules, so Company Portal behavior may not match the intent of a single assignment viewed in isolation. For example, Microsoft’s documented conflict table resolves a User Required assignment plus a User Uninstall assignment to Required, while User Available plus User Uninstall resolves to Uninstall. In another documented case, an app can appear in Company Portal and selecting Install can make the install intent take precedence. Consult Microsoft’s assignment conflict guidance before changing targeting.

Self-service uninstall versus administrator-directed removal

These are different controls. Allow available uninstall lets a user remove an eligible Available app from Company Portal. An administrator instead directs removal by assigning the app with the Uninstall intent to a group. Microsoft’s Win32 app management guidance distinguishes these workflows and notes that Required apps may be installed again during a later Intune evaluation after a user removes them.

For administrator-directed removal, first remove the install group assignment or the relevant group membership, then apply the Uninstall assignment. If the same group has both install and uninstall assignments, the app may remain. Check both user and device assignments when troubleshooting an outcome that differs from the intended removal.
