UpCloud’s smallest listed USD Starter server costs $3.50 per month for 1 CPU core, 1 GB of RAM, 10 GB of standard storage, and a public IPv4 address. That is a specific entry configuration, not an all-in price for every deployment. UpCloud bills usage from prepaid account balance by the hour, and Starter and Premium servers continue to incur server charges while powered off.

What does UpCloud’s $3.50 plan include?

UpCloud’s live USD calculator listed this Starter configuration on October 7, 2026:

  • 1 CPU core
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 10 GB standard storage
  • One public IPv4 address

The calculator’s other Starter examples include 1 core/2 GB/20 GB for $7 per month, 2 cores/2 GB/30 GB for $10, and 2 cores/8 GB/40 GB for $20. These are location-sensitive live prices; check the UpCloud Cost Calculator for the selected region and currency before ordering. Taxes and additional services may affect the amount charged.

The $3.50 configuration is a modest starting point for experiments, learning, development, or smaller projects. Whether it is sufficient for a production workload depends on that workload’s resource needs; the price alone does not establish performance.

How do UpCloud’s server plans differ?

Plan Best fit described by UpCloud Storage and IP treatment SLA
Starter Cost-conscious experiments, learning, smaller projects, and development Standard block storage and public IPv4 are included in the described configuration 99.99%, as stated on the configuration page
Premium Production and business-critical use MaxIOPS storage; compare included resources and transfer allowance for the chosen configuration 99.999%, as described in UpCloud’s plan guide
Cloud Native Cloud-native setups, Managed Kubernetes workers, and automatically scaling workloads CPU, memory, and network traffic are bundled; storage and IP addresses are separate add-ons Not stated in the cited plan guide

These are provider-stated service-level commitments, not independently measured uptime results. Compare the included CPU and memory, storage tier and quota, public IP needs, add-on charges, and how the server is billed when powered off. Cloud Native’s separated storage and IP charges may suit deployments that do not need bundled storage or a public IP, while the appropriate plan depends on the resources and scaling behavior the workload requires. See UpCloud’s guide to managing Cloud Server plans.

How monthly and hourly billing work

UpCloud uses a fixed monthly price for server configurations but bills hourly, up to 672 hours per month—the equivalent of 24 hours a day for 28 days. Its FAQ says the hourly rate is calculated by dividing the monthly rate by 672. This lets shorter deployments pay for the hours used while capping the server-plan charge at its monthly price.

That hourly billing does not mean every cost stops when a server is shut down. Starter and Premium server-plan charges continue while those servers are powered off. Cloud Native servers are charged only while powered on. Storage, IP addresses, and backups may continue to accrue charges even when a server is shut down.

To stop the main server-plan charge for a Starter or Premium server, shutting it down is not enough; consider whether you need to delete or resize it, and check the billing effect of any resources you retain.

What can add to the bill?

  • Storage: Additional block storage is charged per GB per hour. See UpCloud’s block storage billing documentation.
  • Simple Backups: The documented tiers cost 20%, 40%, or 60% of the associated server plan’s monthly price, depending on the selected plan.
  • Additional services: Extra IP addresses and network services can add charges. Cloud Native storage and IP addresses are separate add-ons rather than part of its CPU, memory, and network-traffic bundle.
  • Taxes: Applicable local taxes can change the amount due; confirm treatment for your location and account.

Build an estimate around the resources you will actually retain, not only the advertised server configuration. Check current rates in the calculator and billing documentation for the selected currency and location.

Does UpCloud renew monthly?

Not like a conventional subscription that charges once on a fixed date every 30 days. UpCloud deducts hourly usage costs from the prepaid account balance. You can add funds manually or set a recurring card top-up that triggers when the balance falls below a chosen threshold, for a chosen amount. The top-up schedule therefore responds to balance and usage rather than a calendar renewal date.

UpCloud describes this distinction in its account-balance documentation and instructions for adding balance. A card top-up rule is not the same as a fixed monthly server subscription.

What happens if the account balance runs out?

UpCloud says servers are shut down when the account balance is exhausted. If the balance remains exhausted for over a month, servers may be removed and allocated IP addresses released. After over two months, storage may be removed and data permanently lost. Storage, IP addresses, and backups can continue to generate charges while servers are shut down and the balance is exhausted.

What are the trial and refund terms?

UpCloud’s Getting Started FAQ, checked October 7, 2026, describes a seven-day free trial and says a one-time deposit of at least $10 or €10 before the trial ends allows continued use of trial resources. The same FAQ states a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first payment.

UpCloud’s global getting-started page has also advertised a 30-day trial with $500 credit. Those offers differ by page context or may have changed, so the available promotion is not established as universal. Check the offer shown for your geography and signup path, along with its terms, before relying on a trial length or credit amount: Getting Started FAQ and global get-started page.
