The ear is the organ system for hearing and balance. The mouth, also called the oral cavity, is the entrance to the digestive tract and helps with eating, taste, speech, swallowing, and breathing.
What is the ear?
The ear is divided into the external, middle, and inner ear. Together, these parts collect sound and pass vibration toward structures that convert it into signals for the nervous system. The brain and auditory pathways interpret those signals as sound; the ear does not work alone. The inner ear also contains vestibular structures involved in balance.
External ear
The external ear collects sound and directs it toward the eardrum.

Middle ear
Vibrations of the eardrum are transmitted through the small bones called ossicles in the middle ear.

Inner ear
The cochlea converts mechanical activity into neural signals that travel through auditory pathways. Other inner-ear structures contribute to equilibrium, which is why the ear has a role in balance as well as hearing. What is the mouth?
The mouth, or oral cavity, is the first portion of the digestive system. Its principal structures include the lips, tongue, palate, and teeth. It receives food and drink and begins food processing; it also contributes to taste, speech articulation, swallowing, and normal respiration. - Lips help contain food and form sounds during speech.
