To hide prices in WooCommerce, choose whether you need to remove only the displayed price, switch the store into catalog mode, or restrict buying for a particular audience. Those are different outcomes: hiding a price does not automatically remove Add to Cart or prevent checkout. For a simple display-only change, use a PHP filter; for audience-specific rules or catalog-wide controls, use an extension.

Choose what “hide the price” should mean

Before changing the store, decide which customer action you want to affect. A quote-based store may hide the amount but invite customers to request a quote. A wholesale store may show prices only to logged-in users. A catalog-only storefront may hide prices and disable purchasing. These are use cases, not automatic effects of hiding price text.

  • Hide the displayed amount: suppress price HTML on product pages or other relevant storefront views.
  • Hide Add to Cart: separately remove or replace purchase controls.
  • Restrict purchasing: ensure the intended audience cannot add products to a cart or complete checkout.

WooCommerce provides hooks and filters for changing output without editing its core files. Its hooks documentation explains that filter hooks can manipulate and return a value, such as a product price: WooCommerce Hooks: Actions and filters. Hiding rendered price markup alone does not remove the underlying product price or establish that price data is absent from feeds, structured data, endpoints, or custom templates.

Compare the three approaches

Approach Best fit Trade-off
PHP filter in a child theme or site-specific code plugin A simple global or specifically coded display change when someone can maintain PHP Requires code and compatibility checks; hiding price HTML alone does not necessarily stop purchasing.
Catalog visibility or settings extension Switching the store or a user group into catalog mode, potentially controlling prices and purchases together May affect more than price display, including cart and checkout behavior.
Rule-based hide-price extension Rules for guests, user roles, products, or categories, with replacement text or a quote action Adds an extension dependency; check current compatibility and the exact behavior of its rules.

Official documentation describes these capability categories; it does not establish comparative performance or prove that any option suits every store. Availability and extension behavior can change.

Method 1: Hide price HTML with a PHP filter

WooCommerce’s WC_Product::get_price_html() method passes rendered price HTML through the woocommerce_get_price_html filter. The following illustrative example hides that output from logged-out visitors and leaves it unchanged for logged-in users:

add_filter( 'woocommerce_get_price_html', 'my_hide_product_price', 10, 2 );
function my_hide_product_price( $price, $product ) {
    if ( ! is_user_logged_in() ) {
        return '';
    }
    return $price;
}

This is an example, not tested code or a complete access-control solution. It filters rendered HTML only. It does not by itself hide Add to Cart, secure purchase paths, or prove that price information is unavailable through other data surfaces. If your policy is that only logged-in customers may buy, handle purchase controls and relevant data surfaces with appropriate mechanisms too.

Add the code without editing WooCommerce core

  1. Use a child theme or a site-specific code plugin so the customization is separate from WooCommerce core files.
  2. Add the snippet in the appropriate PHP location for that setup. If you are unsure where it belongs, ask a developer rather than pasting it into an unfamiliar file.
  3. Test logged-out and logged-in views on the store, including product types and templates that matter to your customers.

Variable products use a variable-specific rendering filter and also pass through the shared price HTML filter in their rendering path. Their prices may appear as a range or a single amount, so verify variation selection and the displayed result with your theme and extensions. See the WooCommerce code reference for WC_Product::get_price_html().

WooCommerce describes hook customization as developer-level and advises people unfamiliar with hooks, snippets, or resolving conflicts to seek help. The same guidance applies if your theme or another extension changes the result.

Method 2: Use catalog visibility or settings controls

A catalog-mode extension can be a better fit when the desired change is broader than price display—for example, changing how a store or selected group of customers can browse and buy. Some extensions combine catalog visibility with purchase controls. Check which specific controls the extension offers and whether they affect the cart or checkout before enabling them. WooCommerce’s documentation describes catalog-mode capabilities in its catalog visibility options documentation.

Method 3: Use rules to hide prices for selected visitors or products

A rule-based hide-price extension is suited to conditional display: for example, hiding prices from guests, showing them to specified roles, or applying rules to products or categories. Depending on the extension, you may be able to replace the price with text or a custom action such as a quote request. Confirm that its rules match your intended audience and product scope; a display rule is not necessarily a purchase restriction. See the capabilities described in WooCommerce’s hide-price extension documentation.

Verify the storefront and the buying path

After changing a filter or extension rule, check the experience as both a guest and a logged-in user. Include the product types, categories, and customer roles covered by your policy. If the price or rule behaves unexpectedly, WooCommerce’s extension troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that the rule is published, verifying role targeting, and clearing the cache when needed: hide-price troubleshooting.

Then check Add to Cart and the cart and checkout flows separately if your goal includes restricting purchases. A blank price on a product page is not proof that these controls—or other places that expose product data—are restricted.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
