The iPhone 18 Pro Max is Apple’s larger, higher-priced flagship, while Samsung’s Galaxy S26 FE offers a 120Hz display and a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera at a substantially lower announced U.S. starting price. At launch, the iPhone starts at $1,299 and the Galaxy S26 FE at $699.99—a $599.01 difference between those starting prices, not a like-for-like quote for matching storage or a current retail offer.
Price difference: the iPhone starts $599.01 higher in the U.S.
Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $1,299 for iPhone 18 Pro Max; Samsung announced a U.S. starting price of $699.99 for Galaxy S26 FE. Subtracting the two launch figures gives a $599.01 gap. These are announced starting prices, not current store quotes: taxes, carrier deals, trade-ins, discounts, and local pricing are excluded.
Storage also matters. Apple lists iPhone 18 Pro Max in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. Samsung’s U.S. announcement lists Galaxy S26 FE in 128GB and 256GB. The headline price gap compares each phone’s starting configuration, so compare the 256GB models and the full local checkout price before deciding.
For a market-specific reference, Samsung Korea lists the Galaxy S26 FE 256GB at 1,045,000 won. That Korean price should not be compared directly with Apple’s U.S. price. Both phones had been announced and were available by October 7, 2026: Samsung said the FE would be available from September 4 in the U.S. and selected markets, while Apple said Pro Max availability began September 18. Apple’s launch announcement, Samsung’s U.S. announcement, and Samsung Korea’s launch release provide the cited launch details.

These are manufacturer-published specifications and claims, not independent measurements. The Korean software and connectivity details are market-specific, and Samsung’s support statement is qualified as “up to”; confirm software availability and applicable support terms for your country. Samsung says the 45W charging adapter is sold separately, so check package contents and local compatibility.
Which display and size fit you better?
The Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, compared with the FE’s 6.7-inch FHD+ panel. The FE’s listed refresh rate reaches 120Hz, which can make supported on-screen motion appear smoother than at 60Hz. Size and refresh rate alone do not establish which panel looks better; brightness, resolution, color, and personal preference also matter.

If you want the larger screen, Apple’s model has the size advantage. If a high refresh rate is a priority, Samsung explicitly lists 60/120Hz. Neither specification tells you which handset is easier to hold or use one-handed, so try the dimensions in person if ergonomics are decisive.
Camera hardware: versatile lenses versus variable aperture
Apple lists a 48MP Fusion main camera with variable aperture. Samsung specifies three rear cameras: a 50MP wide camera with optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and stabilization.

The FE’s stated 3x optical telephoto gives it a dedicated camera for that zoom range; Apple’s cited launch information emphasizes the variable-aperture main camera. Megapixel counts and lens lists do not establish photo or video quality. No controlled side-by-side camera result is available here, so the specifications cannot settle which phone takes better pictures, handles low light better, or produces more pleasing video.
Battery, charging, and performance: what specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Samsung gives the FE a 4,900mAh typical battery capacity and lists 45W wired and 15W wireless charging, plus Wireless PowerShare. Apple describes the Pro Max as having the largest increase in battery life ever on iPhone, but that is Apple’s claim rather than a comparative endurance test. Battery capacity, charging wattage, and manufacturer battery language do not predict how long either phone lasts in an individual routine or how quickly it charges in real use.

The phones use different processors: Apple’s A20 Pro and Samsung’s Exynos 2500. Those names do not provide a fair speed comparison. No independent benchmark or controlled head-to-head performance test is cited here, so there is no substantiated winner for app speed, gaming, or sustained performance.

Apple announces N1 support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Samsung Korea lists Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 for its market-specific specification. Samsung says the Galaxy S26 FE will receive up to seven OS generations and seven years of security updates; “up to” is important, and local terms should be confirmed. The cited materials do not establish a comparable support-period commitment for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Which should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if
- You want a lower announced U.S. starting price and can verify a suitable local offer.
- You value a listed 120Hz display and a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera.
- You prefer Samsung’s Android and Galaxy AI environment, subject to regional feature availability.
- You want Samsung’s stated support policy, after confirming the terms applicable where you live.
Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if
- You specifically want Apple’s Pro Max model, its 6.9-inch display, or its iOS ecosystem.
- You want the listed A20 Pro and a 48MP main camera with variable aperture.
- You value the announced Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support.
- You are comfortable paying the higher local price for the configuration you want.
There is no evidence here to declare either phone the overall performance, camera, or battery-life winner. The practical choice turns on your ecosystem, desired camera hardware and display features, and the actual price of the storage configuration in your country. For most buyers who are comparing only the announced U.S. entry prices, the FE costs much less; whether the Pro Max merits its premium depends on features and preferences that specifications alone cannot measure.
