You generally can’t promote another user profile to administrator on a Samsung Galaxy tablet. To give someone else primary control, back up what you need, factory-reset the tablet, then set it up with the new owner’s account. If they only need their own space on a shared tablet, add a separate user profile instead.
Choose between adding a user and transferring primary control
Samsung’s “Admin profile” is the tablet’s primary user profile. It is different from a Samsung account or Google account, which can be removed from the device. The original Admin profile cannot be removed unless the tablet is reset, according to Samsung’s Galaxy tablet user-profile guide.

If the recipient needs to manage user profiles and the tablet as its primary user, choose the reset route. Samsung’s UK guidance likewise describes the first account added to the tablet as the administrator, who controls account management: How to add additional user accounts to a Galaxy tablet.

Use this option when the current owner will keep the tablet and another person just needs a separate profile. The exact labels can vary by model and software version.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup, then Users.
- Tap Add user or profile, choose User, and follow the on-screen setup.
To switch profiles, select a user from Settings > Accounts and backup > Users, or tap the user icon in Quick Settings. Samsung says you can return to the original Admin profile by restarting the tablet or choosing that profile in Quick Settings. These user-profile steps are described in Samsung’s support guide.
Transfer administrator control with a factory reset
A factory reset is the documented way to remove the original Admin profile and prepare the tablet for a new primary owner. It erases personal data stored on the tablet. Samsung’s factory-reset instructions advise backing up important data first and note that a Samsung account password may be required to complete the reset.

Before you reset
- Back up photos, videos, documents, and any other local data the current owner wants to keep.
- Make sure you know the sign-in details for accounts associated with the tablet. After a reset, Google Factory Reset Protection (FRP) may ask for verification using a Google account previously registered on the device.
- If you cannot provide the required credentials, do not reset until you have resolved access. Samsung directs owners who cannot complete reset or setup because of stored credentials to contact Samsung support.
Reset from Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management > Reset > Factory data reset.
- Review what will be erased, then confirm only when you are ready.
- Wait for the tablet to restart and begin initial setup. Set it up with the new owner’s account.

You can remove a Samsung or Google account from the tablet without deleting that account permanently. On Samsung devices, the account-removal path is generally Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts; select the account and tap Remove account. Removing an account alone does not replace the original Admin profile. If the goal is to hand over primary control, use the reset process instead.
If setup asks for a previous account
FRP is a device-protection feature that can require verification with a Google account previously registered on the tablet. Samsung says this may occur when a reset is performed by a method other than Factory data reset in Settings. On Android 9 and later, the previously configured screen lock may also be offered as an ownership-verification method. Do not try to bypass FRP; if you are the legitimate owner and cannot verify, contact Samsung support or service. See Samsung’s factory-reset guidance for reset and verification details.

Why the tablet model matters
The model, Android or One UI version, and carrier can affect the available settings and menu wording. Samsung notes this variation in its user-profile guidance. If the path above does not match your tablet, look in Settings for Users or Factory data reset, or consult Samsung support for that model.
