Replace a stylus tip when it is damaged, worn sharp, or too short—and use the replacement and removal method specified for your exact pen. Stylus tips are not universally interchangeable, and the steps differ by model. Wacom calls the tip a “nib”; this guide uses both terms.
When should you replace a stylus tip?
Inspect the tip regularly. Replace it if it is damaged, worn to a sharp point, or has become too short. Wacom Support advises replacing a nib before it reaches a sharp point or gets too short, noting that wear depends in part on how much pressure you apply. Logitech says a Crayon tip can be damaged by a drop or wear down with use.
A damaged or excessively worn tip can put the writing surface at risk. Wacom warns that a worn nib may damage coated surfaces; Logitech says replacing a damaged or worn Crayon tip helps avoid damage to an iPad screen. Neither manufacturer establishes a universal replacement interval, so do not rely on a fixed number of months.
Wacom’s user help suggests replacement when the nib is approximately 1 mm long or has a sharp edge. That is Wacom-specific guidance, not a universal measurement for every stylus.

Before buying a replacement
- Identify the exact stylus model and, if relevant, the tablet it is used with.
- Check the device manual or the manufacturer’s spare-parts information for the correct tip or nib type. Wacom specifically directs users to the device manual.
- Match the replacement to the listed model or part number. Do not assume that a tip from another brand—or even another pen in the same brand—will fit.
- Check pack quantity, local availability, price, and whether you already have a removal tool. These details can vary by listing and region.
For a Wacom pen, search for replacement nibs only after checking model compatibility. Logitech offers a Crayon-specific replacement tip. A nib extractor is a conditional extra: some pens include a built-in or supplied remover, while others may require a suitable alternative.
How to replace a Wacom pen nib
- Check your Wacom device’s manual to confirm the compatible nib type and find where spare nibs or the removal tool are stored. Depending on the device, they may be in the pen, packaging, case, holder, stand, or a compartment.
- Use the supplied or built-in nib remover to grip the old nib and pull it straight out. If you do not have an extractor, Wacom says small pliers can be used.
- Insert the compatible replacement nib straight into the pen barrel.
- Push the nib in until it stops.
Follow the instructions for your specific Wacom device if they differ from this general method.
