To set up the TanTan WP3 smart plug, add it in the Smart Life app, connect it to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, then link Smart Life to Alexa if you want voice control. TanTan’s instructions are model-specific: check the plug’s label and use the matching manual, since other TanTan models may have different pairing and reset details.
Before you start
- Check the model number on the plug. The steps below follow TanTan’s WP3 manual; do not assume they match every TanTan plug.
- Install or open the Smart Life app, then sign in or create an account. TanTan’s WP3 manual names Smart Life and says it is available for iOS and Android.
- Have your home Wi-Fi name and password ready. The WP3 manual specifies 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; a phone connected to a 5 GHz-only network may not complete this model’s setup.
- Check the electrical rating printed on your unit before connecting a load. The WP3 manual lists 100–240 V, 10 A, 50–60 Hz, and a maximum total output of 2200 W; those ratings are not universal across TanTan models.
Set up the plug in Smart Life
- Plug the WP3 into a suitable power outlet.
- Open Smart Life and tap +. Choose Electrical outlet to add the plug.
- Press and hold the plug’s on/off button until its indicator flashes slowly. Confirm the indicated pairing state in the app.
- Follow the app’s connection prompts. TanTan’s WP3 manual recommends Easy Mode. If that fails, choose AP Mode in the app and follow its prompts. The manual refers to a Wi-Fi hotspot named “Smart Life,” but app labels and hotspot behavior may have changed.
- Wait for the connection process to finish, then tap Done.
The WP3 manual gives an operating-temperature range of −10 to 60 °C. Follow the instructions supplied with your exact model and the rating on the unit when deciding where and how to use it.
Connect Smart Life to Alexa
Pair the plug in Smart Life before linking Alexa. TanTan’s WP3 instructions describe enabling the Smart Life skill in Alexa, signing in with the same Smart Life account, and linking the accounts. Then use Alexa’s device-discovery flow to find the plug. Alexa’s current labels and skill availability can vary, so follow the prompts shown in your app.

If setup or Alexa discovery fails
Smart Life cannot add the plug
- Check that you selected the correct home Wi-Fi network and entered its password correctly.
- Confirm that the indicator is flashing slowly before continuing. If Easy Mode does not work, try AP Mode as described in the WP3 manual.
- For general smart-device setup issues, Google notes that 2.4 GHz network configuration and access-point or client isolation can affect setup. Check your router documentation for isolation settings; this guidance does not establish that a particular TanTan model supports Google Home.
Alexa does not find a plug already in Smart Life
- Check that the Smart Life skill is enabled and linked to the account used to set up the plug.
- Run device discovery again in Alexa.
- If the plug is unresponsive, Amazon’s general guidance for third-party smart plugs is to unplug it and reconnect power. If that does not help, remove the device from Alexa, follow the manufacturer’s reset instructions, and reconnect it.
Reset only with the instructions for your model
The WP3 manual says its on/off button can restore factory defaults and warns: “Only do this if you are sure you want to erase all your settings.” The manual excerpt does not specify a button-hold duration. A separate TanTan S2 instruction sheet also describes a long press to restore factory defaults, but that does not establish the WP3 timing or procedure. Check the manual for the model printed on your plug; do not borrow reset timing from another brand or model.
