Whether you can remove the clock depends on your device. Windows has a documented setting to hide the time and date from the taskbar’s system tray. On Android, the underlying system framework includes a clock-display option, but its availability in Settings varies by device and software version. The procedures are not interchangeable: Windows calls this area the system tray, Android calls it the status bar, and macOS calls it the menu bar.
How do I remove the time from the Windows taskbar?
Windows lets you hide both the time and date in the system tray. Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time, then turn off Show time and date in the System tray. To restore them, turn that switch on. Microsoft also documents a shortcut: right-click the taskbar clock and select Adjust date and time to open the relevant settings. The wording can vary by Windows version. Microsoft’s taskbar instructions describe the setting.
This changes the system-tray display; it does not turn off the device’s clock or change how apps show time.
Windows 10 support note
The clock setting may still be documented for Windows 10, but Microsoft says Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Hiding the clock does not affect support or security updates. Microsoft’s Windows 10 support notice gives the end date.

Can an administrator hide the clock on managed Windows devices?
Yes. Administrators can use the Group Policy setting Remove Clock from the system notification area, found at User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Remove Clock from the system notification area. Enabling the policy hides the clock; disabled or unconfigured behavior leaves it displayed by default. This is an administrative policy, not the ordinary consumer setting. A separate policy can hide the entire notification area, affecting notification icons as well as the clock. It is broader than needed if the goal is only to remove the clock.

Can I remove the time from the Android status bar?
Possibly, depending on the phone maker and Android version. Android Open Source Project SystemUI resources include a clock display choice labeled “Don’t show this icon.” That establishes that the framework contains such an option, but does not confirm that it appears in the standard Settings app on every device or current manufacturer build. Immersive mode is not a system-wide clock switch
Android apps can dim or temporarily hide system bars for immersive content. That affects the app’s presentation or the system bars, not just the clock across the whole device. The available official documentation does not verify a supported, built-in clock-only switch for either macOS or iOS. Because the clock appears in different interface areas and options can change by OS release, check Apple’s instructions for your specific device and version rather than assuming a Windows or Android procedure applies.
