To allow or turn off the documented ChatGPT Siri extension, open Settings > Siri and use the ChatGPT control for the Siri interface on your device. Apple’s current instructions cover ChatGPT specifically—not a general switch for connecting any third-party app as a Siri extension. The exact labels differ between Siri AI (Beta) and the earlier ChatGPT extension interface.
Allow ChatGPT through Siri on iPhone
With Siri AI (Beta)
- Open Settings > Siri > Set Up Extensions > ChatGPT.
- Turn on Use Extension and follow the on-screen setup.
Signing in to a ChatGPT account is optional. Apple says you must sign in if you want extension requests saved to your ChatGPT history.
With the earlier ChatGPT extension interface
- Open Settings > Siri > ChatGPT > Set Up.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
This setup path applies to the ChatGPT extension documented by Apple; it does not indicate that arbitrary third-party apps can be added as Siri extensions.

Turn off ChatGPT access or stop setup prompts
With Siri AI (Beta)
Go to Settings > Siri > Extensions > ChatGPT and turn off Use Extension.

With the earlier ChatGPT extension interface
Go to Settings > Siri > ChatGPT and turn off Use ChatGPT. In this interface, you can also turn off Setup Prompts to prevent Siri from suggesting ChatGPT. Apple says Setup Prompts is not available with Siri AI.
The earlier interface also has a Confirm Requests option. Turning it off lets Siri send requests without asking first. Apple says that option is unavailable with Siri AI: you must first ask ChatGPT before a prompt, photo, or file is sent.

Find the corresponding control on iPad
Open Settings > Siri and look for the extension controls available on your iPad’s software version. Apple’s iPad documentation identifies the Siri settings area but does not establish a step-by-step ChatGPT extension path, so the iPhone menu sequence should not be assumed to match exactly. Labels and options may vary by Siri interface.

ChatGPT extension, Screen Time, and app suggestions are different controls

In Screen Time’s Siri controls, Apple documents options to block Siri, allow Siri (Classic Version), allow Siri AI (Beta), and allow or block listed Siri AI capabilities. Use those restrictions when the goal is to limit Siri more broadly, not just ChatGPT.
Check device, software, language, and region availability
Apple’s iOS 27 support documentation lists an eligible iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 model or later for Apple Intelligence. Siri AI is described as a beta feature available in English to start and initially unavailable in the EU on iOS. Apple also notes that Apple Intelligence is not available in every language or region and that usage limits may apply. Availability can change, so check your device’s Settings and Apple Support for current details.

The ChatGPT extension is available only where the ChatGPT app and service are available. You must meet the applicable minimum age to consent to ChatGPT: at least 13, or the higher minimum age required in your country.

Apple says you choose what content to send. When you use the extension, the request and attachments, along with limited context such as time zone, country, device type, language, and the feature being used, are sent to ChatGPT. Apple says your IP address is obscured from ChatGPT while general location is provided.

Apple distinguishes signed-out from signed-in use. For signed-out requests, it says OpenAI processes data to fulfill the request and does not store requests or responses unless legally required, or use them to improve or train models. When signed in, your ChatGPT account settings and OpenAI’s data privacy policies apply. Apple’s statement about signed-out handling should not be read as describing signed-in account use.
Apple’s support page says, “You control when ChatGPT is used and are asked before any of your information is shared.” For Siri AI, however, Apple says you must first ask ChatGPT before a prompt, photo, or file is sent; the earlier interface has the separate Confirm Requests control.
