Update Minecraft Education through the channel used to install it: Windows desktop checks at sign-in, while the Windows Store, managed Play Store, and App Store handle their own updates. The Mac app is manually installed from the official download page. Before manually uninstalling and reinstalling, back up your worlds because they may be deleted.
Choose the update method for your device
The update route depends on both the platform and how Minecraft Education was installed. On a school-managed device, your organization may control when an update becomes available.

Update the Windows desktop app
- Connect to the internet and sign in to the computer. Minecraft Education checks for updates at sign-in.
- If the update does not appear, check whether your network blocks
downloads.minecrafteduservices.com. On a managed computer, ask your IT administrator whether updates are controlled centrally.
Update from the Windows Store
- Open the Microsoft Store and check for Minecraft Education updates or wait for the Store’s update notification.
- To manage automatic updates, use the Store settings. If the device is managed by your school, the organization may control update availability.
Update Minecraft Education on a Chromebook
Updates are delivered through the managed Play Store. Check the app there; if the update is unavailable on a school Chromebook, the administrator may need to approve or deploy it.

Update Minecraft Education on a Mac
The official support instructions call for manually installing the Mac app from the official download page. If you need to remove the existing app as part of a manual reinstall, back up your worlds first.

Update Minecraft Education on an iPad
Use the App Store to update the app. You can manage automatic updates through App Store settings. On a school-managed iPad, update availability may be controlled by the organization.
Back up worlds before a manual reinstall
Minecraft Education Support warns that uninstalling the current version during a manual update may delete worlds. Automatic updates do not delete worlds, but a manual uninstall is different.

- Back up any worlds you need to keep before removing the app.
- Uninstall the current version only after the backup is complete.
- Download and install the latest app from the official download page.
- Open the app and confirm that your worlds and the updated version are available.
Update a dedicated server
A dedicated server uses a separate package and migration process; updating the client app does not update the server.

- Stop the old server.
- Copy the session JSON, worlds folder, server properties, allowlist, permissions, and any customized files into the new server directory.
- Start the new server and confirm its version in the startup output.

Check the installed version
Open Minecraft Education and look at the lower-right corner of the home screen. Minecraft Education Support says the version number is displayed there.
Version labels can differ between official pages. The download page lists version 1.26.32, while the change log labels its August 5, 2026 release 26.32 and says numbering changed to a year-first format. For the current release, check the download page and the change log; use each page’s own version label.

When an update still is not available
- On a school-managed Windows device, Chromebook, or iPad, ask the administrator whether the organization controls deployment.
- For the Windows desktop app, check that the network does not block
downloads.minecrafteduservices.com. - If an older device cannot run the current app, check the official system requirements. The listed minimums include ChromeOS 114, macOS 14, Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), Android 8, and iOS/iPadOS 15. Linux distributions and emulation are not supported; requirements can change.
