To find the right water filter for a Samsung refrigerator, look up the refrigerator’s full model number in Samsung’s filter finder, check its user manual, or read the part number printed on the installed cartridge. Samsung refrigerators do not all use the same filter, so confirm compatibility before buying. The exact model number is on a label inside the refrigerator; for the models covered by Samsung Canada’s finder, it is on the inner right wall.
Find the filter that fits your refrigerator
- Locate the full refrigerator model number. Check the label inside the refrigerator. Samsung Canada says the label is on the inner right wall for the refrigerator styles covered by its finder. If that location does not match your appliance, consult its manual.
- Search Samsung’s filter finder. Enter the complete model number and use the compatible filter returned. Samsung notes that different refrigerator models can require different filters. Samsung Canada’s water-filter guide links to its finder.
- If you cannot look up the model, read the installed cartridge. Note the filter model or part number printed on it, then check that number against the manual or Samsung’s compatibility information. Do not rely on the Samsung name or the cartridge’s appearance alone.
- Check the manual before replacing it. Filter position, removal direction, installation, and indicator-reset controls vary by refrigerator.
Samsung Canada’s guide identifies HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAF-CU1 as common internal-filter types in its market. These are not interchangeable choices for every Samsung refrigerator. Samsung UK also lists regional types such as HAFEX/EXP, HAFIN1/EXP, HAF-QIN/EXP, HAF-CIN/EXP, and HAFIN2/EXP. Use the exact model-specific result for your appliance and market rather than transferring a list from another country.
Replace an internal filter safely
The following directions summarize Samsung Canada’s procedures for the covered internal filters. If your cartridge or housing differs, follow the manual for your refrigerator instead.

HAF-CIN and HAF-QIN
- Shut off the water supply, then dispense water until the flow stops to relieve pressure.
- Find the filter housing. Turn the old cartridge counterclockwise to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
- Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge. Insert it into the housing and turn clockwise until it locks. Align the lock marking with the housing indicator.
- Restore the water supply. Reset the filter indicator using the control method for your refrigerator, then flush the system.
HAF-CU1
- Shut off the water supply and dispense water until flow stops.
- Turn the old filter left to unlock it, then pull it down.
- Insert the replacement upward and turn it right to lock. Align the filter notch with the arrow on the housing.
- Restore the water supply, reset the indicator using the model-specific control, and flush the system.
Samsung Canada recommends flushing for about seven minutes, or 10–12 large glasses, after installing the internal filters covered by its instructions; discard the flushed water. The exact procedure can vary by model.

Reset the filter reminder
The reset control depends on the refrigerator. Samsung Canada says that on most models, holding the applicable Alarm, Water Filter, or Ice/Water button for three seconds resets the indicator. Use the control identified in your manual if your panel differs; do not assume every Samsung refrigerator uses the same button.
If the replacement will not fit
Do not force the cartridge. First confirm that its part number matches your refrigerator, then check the manual and relieve water pressure. A cartridge that resists installation may be the wrong filter, or the housing lock may not be fully unlocked.

Samsung US documents a fit issue involving some HAF-CU1 housings. The filter design changed from a two-rib lock to a three-rib lock to provide a tighter fit and better seal, while retaining the same model and part number. For the documented case, Samsung’s procedure uses the old filter to turn the lock farther left while holding it into the housing; then remove the old filter and insert the replacement. Samsung Canada recommends replacing the water filter every six months. Treat this as a recommended interval, not a guarantee that every household’s filter will last the same amount of time: local water quality and dispenser use can affect timing. The filter indicator is a reminder, but check the cartridge and follow your refrigerator’s instructions.
