After learning Angular basics, choose a small next step that fits your goal: experiment in Angular’s browser-based Playground, follow a guided tutorial, or create a local project with the Angular CLI. You do not need to complete every official guide in a fixed order. Start building, then learn the Angular features your app actually needs.
Choose your next step
Angular’s official Next Steps guide offers several routes rather than one mandatory sequence. Use this comparison to choose:
| Route | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Angular Playground | Trying ideas without setting up a computer | An interactive, in-browser code editor. |
| Fundamentals tutorial | Reinforcing core concepts with guidance | A browser-based learning route linked from Angular’s next-steps page. |
| First-app tutorial | Learning through a sequenced project | Lessons that build an app; you can use local tools or the embedded editor. It assumes basic HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and command-line familiarity. See Build your first Angular app. |
| Local Angular project | Practicing a self-directed workflow on your computer | Install the Angular CLI, create a workspace, and run the app locally. |
Build a local Angular project
Check the prerequisites
Angular’s installation page, as checked on October 7, 2026, lists Node.js v22.22.3 or newer. Node requirements can change, so consult the current Angular installation guide before setting up. The page also covers browser-based and local options.
Create and run the app
- Install the Angular CLI using a package manager, following the current installation guide.
- In a terminal, create a project with
ng new <project-name>. - Move into the project directory:
cd <project-name>. - Start the app with
npm start, as shown by the installation guide. Alternatively, the CLI’s local setup guide documentsng serve --open. Generated project scripts can vary, so use the command listed in your project’s scripts when needed.
The CLI local setup guide explains the workspace workflow. The development server compiles and serves the app, rebuilds after file changes, and supports live reload; it is for development, not production hosting. See Serving Angular apps for development.

Learn features as your app needs them
Begin with components and templates, which shape the interface and its displayed content. Add other topics when your project calls for them rather than trying to study every Angular API up front.
- Accepting user input: Study forms when your app needs to collect or validate information.
- Organizing and navigating screens: Explore routing when users need to move between views.
- Adding more app structure: Use the CLI’s
ng generateworkflow to scaffold components and other Angular constructs.
Angular links to component, template, and forms guides from its next-steps page. Use those and other in-depth guides to answer a concrete question in the app you are building.

Test the app as it grows
Once the project has behavior worth checking, use the testing workflows listed in Angular’s CLI setup guide: ng test for tests and ng e2e as an end-to-end testing path. Choose the checks that match the risks and functionality of your app; these commands do not replace deciding what needs to be tested.

Publishing is a distinct production step. Angular’s deployment guide describes two approaches: run ng deploy when a deployment builder is installed and configured, or build for production and copy the output to a web server or CDN. The available integrations and package names may change, so check the current guide rather than assuming a particular provider or builder.

If the app uses client-side routing, configure its host to serve index.html as a fallback for routes that do not match a file. Without that fallback, directly opening or refreshing a deep link can fail even when navigation inside the app works.
