Markdown Preview is a free, browser-based Markdown editor with a live preview, math rendering, Mermaid diagrams, and presentation mode. Its creator, Jignesh Sanghani, says it requires no account and stores documents in the browser rather than on a document backend. Those privacy and storage details are the author’s claims, not independently verified security findings.
What Markdown Preview does
Sanghani introduced Markdown Preview on DEV Community on September 24, 2026, describing it as a way to write Markdown and see rendered output alongside the editor. The tool is available at mdpreview.jignesh.dev. The feature list combines ordinary document preview with math, diagrams, presentation slides, and ways to export or copy rendered content.
The editor supports GitHub Flavored Markdown features including tables, task lists, footnotes, emoji, GitHub-style callouts, and YAML frontmatter. It also includes a document outline, tabs, find and replace, a command palette, automatic snapshots or version history, and custom CSS for the preview.
Math, diagrams, and slides
Math with KaTeX
The announcement says Markdown Preview renders inline and block math using KaTeX. That may be useful for technical notes or instructional documents that need equations alongside prose. The announcement does not provide independent rendering tests or specify compatibility details for particular math syntax.

Mermaid diagrams
Mermaid support is listed for flowcharts, sequence diagrams, and Gantt charts. This lets a writer include diagrams in a Markdown document rather than maintaining a separate diagram file, subject to the syntax and rendering behavior supported by the editor.
Presentation mode
The editor’s presentation mode treats a line containing --- as a slide break, and the author says speaker notes are supported. This is a lightweight option for turning a Markdown document into slides; the product announcement does not establish how its presentation controls compare with dedicated slide software.

Code highlighting
The author says the editor highlights syntax for more than 180 languages. That is a product feature claim from the announcement, not an independently measured coverage figure.
Import, copy, and export options
Markdown Preview is described as able to open a Markdown file through a GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket link. For output, the announcement lists PDF, standalone HTML, and Markdown exports. It also advertises copying formatted content into Gmail, Google Docs, or Slack, aimed at preserving rendered formatting when moving text into those services. No independent copy-and-paste fidelity tests are reported.

Privacy and offline use: what is claimed
Sanghani says there is no account and no backend for documents, and that document content is stored in browser IndexedDB and localStorage. The announcement also says the editor can be installed as a progressive web app and works offline. These statements describe the author’s stated design; the announcement is not an independent network inspection, privacy audit, or security guarantee. Anyone handling sensitive material should assess the live tool and their own browser environment rather than treating the product description as a verified privacy certification.

The author describes Markdown Preview as free, with no tiers or watermark. Its feature mix may suit someone who wants a browser-based place to draft Markdown, preview equations and Mermaid diagrams, or assemble simple slide decks without switching tools. Whether it is a good fit depends on the live editor’s current behavior and on whether its workflow meets your needs; the product announcement does not include comparative testing against other editors, usability studies, or performance measurements.
