The Hisense U7SG is a compelling mid-range Mini-LED TV if you want a bright, gaming-friendly screen for a well-lit room. Its weaker point is dark-scene contrast: viewers who watch films in a dark room should weigh the black-level and shadow-detail criticism carefully. The right size also matters because the five US versions differ in dimming zones, advertised brightness, and screen finish.
What this review covers
The U7SG is Hisense’s ULED MiniLED 4K Google TV, sold in the US as the 55U7SG, 65U7SG, 75U7SG, 85U7SG, and 100U7SG. Keep the “U7SG” suffix in mind when shopping: Hisense also sells a U7SF variant with Fire TV, and RTINGS says its U7SG review does not apply to that model. RTINGS’ U7SG review
RTINGS bought and tested a 65-inch unit; it says most results apply to the other listed sizes. Tom’s Guide also describes hands-on time with a 65-inch sample. Findings about performance are therefore reviews of 65-inch units, not independent tests of every size.
How the U7SG performs in different rooms
Bright rooms
RTINGS considers the U7SG one of the stronger mid-range options for bright rooms, citing high peak brightness, color, and a matte anti-reflective coating on the sizes below 100 inches. That combination can help when daylight or room lighting is hard to control.
#1 Best Overall
- ART GALLERY: The CanvasTV transforms any room into a curated gallery experience, displaying stunning artwork and photography when you're not watching. Choose from more than 1,000 complimentary curated works across styles and eras, or display your own photos and collections. Swap collections, rotate pieces and change the mood of any room. It's not just a TV. It's a piece of art.
- Hi-Matte Display: Every detail the director intended — every shadow, every texture, every expression—comes through exactly as it should. The CanvasTV's anti-glare display eliminates reflections and distractions, so the story on screen is the only thing you see. Whether it's sunlight streaming through the window or a lamp behind the couch, the picture stays rich, clear and completely yours.
- Choose Your Frame – Teak Frame Included: Your art. Your style. Your space. The CanvasTV fits seamlessly into your home and shifts with your mood, from serene watercolors in the morning to bold abstracts in the evening. And with the included Teak Frame, it looks like a piece of art even when it's just hanging on your wall.
- Included UltraSlim Wall Mount: Designed to blend into your room — and take it over at the same time. The CanvasTV sits flush against the wall like a framed piece of art, with no bulk, no clutter and no compromise. Clean lines. Zero gap. All screen. The kind of design that makes guests stop and stare before they even realize it's a TV. And with the wall mount included, getting that perfect, gallery-worthy look has never been easier.
- 4K Hi - QLED Color: Every brushstroke. Every gradient. Every vivid hue—rendered in breathtaking 4K resolution. Whether you're watching a film or displaying a masterpiece, the CanvasTV brings color to life with a level of depth and accuracy that makes everything on screen feel real enough to reach out and touch.
There is a size-specific brightness discrepancy worth noting: RTINGS’ size comparison lists up to 2,000 nits advertised for the 55-inch model and up to 3,000 nits for the other titled sizes. Hisense’s 55-inch product listing also advertises up to 3,000 nits, so check the exact size’s specification sheet rather than treating the series-wide claim as uniform. Dark-room films and shows
Tom’s Guide praised the 65-inch sample’s color, audio, and gaming, but identified muddy blacks and shadows and weaker contrast as its main limitation. Its assessment is that viewers who do not watch much in a dark room may be less troubled by this. This is one reviewer’s experience with one 65-inch unit, but it makes dark-room viewing the main caution for prospective buyers. Tom’s Guide U7SG review

Glare and the 100-inch screen
RTINGS lists matte coating on the 55-, 65-, 75-, and 85-inch sets, but a glossy coating on the 100-inch model. It says the glossy finish handles reflections worse, making the largest version less suited to a bright room than its smaller counterparts. Consider the screen’s placement and windows as well as its size.
What changes by size
RTINGS’ 2026 comparison gives the following size-specific figures. These are advertised peak-brightness claims and dimming-zone counts, not independent brightness measurements for every size; RTINGS tested the 65-inch model and says its conclusions mostly transfer to the others.

| US model | Dimming zones | Advertised peak brightness | Screen coating |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55U7SG | 512 | Up to 2,000 nits | Matte |
| 65U7SG | 960 | Up to 3,000 nits | Matte |
| 75U7SG | 1,100 | Up to 3,000 nits | Matte |
| 85U7SG | 1,536 | Up to 3,000 nits | Matte |
| 100U7SG | 2,304 | Up to 3,000 nits | Glossy |
RTINGS notes that the 55-inch model has more approximate screen area per dimming zone, which may make local dimming perform a bit worse. That is a source-based expectation, not a result from a separate 55-inch test. RTINGS U7SG size data
Choosing a size
- 55 inches: A smaller-room option, but it has the lowest listed zone count and a lower advertised brightness maximum in RTINGS’ size table. Confirm the brightness specification for the exact listing because Hisense’s product page presents a different series claim.
- 65 inches: The best-documented choice in the available reviews: both RTINGS and Tom’s Guide evaluated a 65-inch unit.
- 75 or 85 inches: These retain the matte finish and have more dimming zones than the 65-inch model, according to RTINGS’ comparison.
- 100 inches: The most zones of the listed sizes, but the glossy coating is a meaningful trade-off in rooms with reflections.
Gaming, picture, and audio features
For its reviewed 65-inch model, Tom’s Guide lists 3,840 × 2,160 resolution, a 165Hz native refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 inputs, and a 2.1.2-channel 50W audio system. The review reports support up to 4K/120Hz for consoles such as PS5 and Xbox Series X, and up to 4K/165Hz for capable gaming PCs. These specifications are attributed to that reviewed size; verify the relevant size-specific specification sheet when buying. Tom’s Guide U7SG review

Hisense’s product pages advertise Mini-LED, Game Bar, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, IMAX Enhanced, Filmmaker Mode, and audio tuned by Devialet. Those are manufacturer feature claims rather than independent measurements. The 65-inch review’s favorable gaming and audio impressions add useful context, but do not guarantee identical results in every room or size. Hisense 65U7SG product page
Price and value
Tom’s Guide listed these US prices in its August 24, 2026 review. They are dated MSRP and sale-price figures, not current quotes or assurances of availability; check the exact model and size at purchase.

At those listed sale prices, the larger sizes look especially aggressive on price, but a size-only comparison misses the differences in room fit and screen finish. Tom’s Guide also named the TCL QM7K, TCL QM7L, and Samsung QN70F as alternatives around the 65-inch U7SG’s market position; its price comparisons were specific to the time of publication. Compare current prices for the same screen size and consider room conditions and review methodology rather than assuming a universal winner. Tom’s Guide price and alternative context
Quick Recap
Who should buy the Hisense U7SG?
- Consider it if you want a bright Mini-LED TV for a well-lit room and value gaming features, color, and the larger-size options.
- Think carefully if dark-room films, deep-looking blacks, or shadow detail are priorities; Tom’s Guide’s 65-inch review flags these as the main weakness.
- Check the exact size for dimming-zone count, brightness claim, and screen finish. The 100-inch model’s glossy coating is less forgiving of reflections than the matte smaller sizes.
- Verify the full model suffix so you select the Google TV U7SG rather than the Fire TV U7SF.
