To clear the Delivery Optimization cache in Windows 11, open Disk Cleanup, select Delivery Optimization Files, and confirm deletion. This built-in method removes cached delivery files without turning off Windows updates or requiring a separate cleaning app.
Clear the cache with Disk Cleanup

Select Search on the taskbar, type Disk Cleanup, and open the app from the results.

If prompted to choose a drive, select the drive where Windows is installed, usually C:, and continue.

On the Disk Cleanup tab, select the checkbox for Delivery Optimization Files. Make sure you select this exact category.

Select OK, then select Delete Files to confirm.

What the Delivery Optimization cache contains
Delivery Optimization helps Windows download updates, Microsoft Store apps, and other Microsoft products. Depending on your settings, your PC may get content from Microsoft or from other PCs on a local network or the internet. The cache holds delivery files that Windows can use as part of this process.

Deleting the cache is a storage cleanup action. It does not uninstall Windows updates or Store apps, and it is not necessary to disable Delivery Optimization to remove the cached files.

Yes. Microsoft Support says that “Delivery Optimization in Windows clears its cache automatically.” Windows removes cached files after a short time or when they take up too much disk space. Manual cleanup is optional; use it when you want to reclaim space now.

Files may accumulate again after later downloads. Delivery Optimization starts when an integrated app or service initiates a download, including Windows Update and Store downloads. See Microsoft Learn’s Delivery Optimization FAQ.
Should you turn off downloads from other PCs?
Not to clear the cache. The Allow downloads from other PCs setting changes where your device gets update content; turning it off does not disable updating. Your device downloads updates directly from Microsoft rather than obtaining them from a local PC that already has the content. On a work- or school-managed device, an administrator may control this setting or make it unavailable. Microsoft explains the setting in its Delivery Optimization guidance.

Advanced option: clear the cache with PowerShell
For administration or targeted cleanup, Microsoft Learn documents the Delete-DeliveryOptimizationCache PowerShell cmdlet. Its options include -FileID to target a file, -IncludePinnedFiles to include pinned files, and -Force to suppress prompts. Consult Microsoft’s Delete-DeliveryOptimizationCache documentation for syntax and use Disk Cleanup if you simply want to remove the cache through Windows’ standard interface.
If the issue is not just disk space
If Delivery Optimization is behaving unexpectedly, Microsoft’s Delivery Optimization Troubleshooter checks device configuration, peer-to-peer efficiency and settings, and Microsoft Connected Cache connectivity. It is a diagnostic tool, not a guaranteed way to reclaim a particular amount of storage.
