Full volume is not a specific sound level, so the speaker’s maximum setting alone cannot tell you whether listening is safe. What matters is the sound reaching your ears, how long you listen, and how often you do it. If you are uneasy, turn it down, check the level where you are listening, and take breaks.
Does full volume automatically damage your hearing?
No. A volume control at its maximum does not correspond to one universal decibel level. The sound at your ears depends on the speaker model, the audio being played, your distance from it, and whether you are indoors or outside. The speaker’s wattage or knob position alone cannot establish your exposure.
The World Health Organization says that “The volume of sounds, the duration of listening, and frequency of exposure to loud sounds all have an impact on hearing.” In other words, risk is about the intensity reaching you, the length of each listening session, and repeated exposure—not simply whether the control is turned all the way up. WHO safe-listening Q&A
How loud is too loud for a party speaker?
There is no single setting that answers this for every speaker or listener. WHO and the International Telecommunication Union give reference allowances of 80 dB for 40 hours per week for adults and 75 dB for 40 hours per week for children. These are exposure references, not recommended speaker settings or guarantees that every person will be safe at those levels. WHO-ITU safe-listening standard

As sound intensity rises, the time considered permissible falls. WHO’s Q&A gives 80 dB for 40 hours a week as an example and explains that louder sound allows less listening time. The figures are useful context, but they cannot tell you the level produced by an unidentified speaker in your particular room or at your position. WHO safe-listening Q&A
How can you check the sound where you are?
Use an app or sound-level meter
WHO says people can use apps to check and monitor sound levels in their environment or music device. You can also use a sound-level meter as an optional physical aid. Take the reading near the place where you are listening, because a measurement at the speaker may not represent what reaches you. Treat any reading as contextual information, not a medical guarantee. WHO does not endorse a particular app or meter in the cited guidance. WHO safe-listening Q&A

Respond to the level and the time
If the sound seems very loud, reduce it or shorten the session rather than relying on a particular knob percentage. Take breaks, and pay attention to how often you listen at high levels. A meter reading can help you understand the environment, but it does not replace reducing exposure when you are concerned.
Does the WHO venue limit apply to a speaker at home?
WHO’s 100 dB(A) recommendation, averaged over a 15-minute period, is guidance for venues and events. It is not a personal safe-volume setting for a portable speaker at home. The setting, audience, and purpose differ, so do not use that event figure as a target for your own listening. WHO global standard for safe listening venues and events

What do speaker manufacturers advise?
Advice in a manual applies to the model it covers. For example, the JBL PartyBox 100 Owner’s Manual warns: “To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen to high volume levels for long periods.” That is model-specific manufacturer advice; it does not identify the speaker in your question or establish a safe maximum for another model.
