For budget-conscious buyers comparing entry-level shared hosting, Namecheap is the stronger starting point on the available price snapshot. GoDaddy may suit you better if you prefer keeping hosting and other business services in one provider ecosystem or want phone support alongside chat and email. Neither is a universal winner: compare the exact plan, billing term, renewal price, site allowance, SSL duration, backups, and migration terms before you buy.
At a glance: Namecheap vs GoDaddy
The figures below come from TechRadar’s 2026 shared-hosting comparison, not a live quote. Prices and plan details can change, so use them to frame a shortlist rather than predict your checkout total.
| Plan in TechRadar’s comparison | Listed price | Storage | Other listed details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Namecheap Stellar | $1.98 per month for the first year; the comparison says renewal is higher | 20 GB | Unlimited bandwidth, SSL, and 30 email accounts |
| GoDaddy Economy | $5.99 per month; the comparison says renewal is higher | 25 GB NVMe | Unmetered bandwidth |
TechRadar’s comparison does not establish a stable all-in cost for every billing term, renewal period, or add-on. Check the provider’s cart for the term total and the renewal amount. “Unlimited” or “unmetered” bandwidth also does not mean unlimited sites or storage.

Which host should you choose?
Choose Namecheap if price is your main priority
Namecheap is the more compelling first stop for a buyer seeking a low-cost shared-hosting plan. TechRadar’s 2026 snapshot lists its Stellar entry plan below GoDaddy Economy, though the Namecheap figure applies to the first year and should not be treated as a long-term rate. Namecheap also documents cPanel, one-click installs, and free migration for new hosting plans. Confirm the chosen tier’s limits and migration eligibility before ordering.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Choose GoDaddy if its ecosystem and support channels fit your workflow
GoDaddy’s hosting page lists chat, phone, and email support, and presents hosting for WordPress, Node.js, and custom applications. If you already use GoDaddy services or prefer having business tools in one provider account, that setup may be convenient. Available channels do not prove better support outcomes, and application compatibility should be checked against the specific plan.
Do not choose on speed claims alone
GoDaddy advertises “99.9% uptime” and speeds “up to 2 times faster.” These are GoDaddy’s claims; the page does not define a comparison baseline, and the reviewed sources do not provide a controlled, same-plan benchmark against Namecheap. The evidence therefore does not establish that either host is faster or more reliable in a head-to-head test.

Plan limits and site count
Namecheap offers shared hosting, WordPress-oriented hosting, VPS, and dedicated-server categories. GoDaddy advertises hosting for WordPress, Node.js, and custom applications. These are different service categories and vendor descriptions, not proof of relative quality. Check the plan’s hosted-site allowance and storage against your project; bandwidth wording does not determine either limit.

- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Namecheap’s shared-hosting page includes plan-history and legacy-plan information, so do not assume every tier or price shown there is a current checkout offer. The provider says it introduced Stellar, Stellar Plus, and Stellar Business as newer shared plans and added monthly billing and a 30-day money-back policy. Verify which terms apply to the plan and region you select.

SSL and backups
A plan listing SSL does not by itself tell you how long the certificate is included or what happens when the included period ends. Check the selected plan’s SSL duration and renewal terms. Namecheap describes free SSL and automatic backups on higher tiers; verify backup frequency, retention, restoration process, and tier eligibility. GoDaddy’s features depend on the selected plan and term, so inspect those details rather than relying on a general feature list.

Namecheap says free migration is available for new hosting plans and that its team can handle a transfer. Confirm what the offer covers, whether your current host and site qualify, and whether there are limits on the number of sites or mailboxes moved. Namecheap documents cPanel and one-click installs. GoDaddy promotes its dashboard and application support; choose based on the tools you need and already know, not an unverified assumption about ease of use.

Namecheap’s hosting categories, features, and migration information
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare the real cost
- Choose the billing term. Compare the total charged for the term you intend to buy, not just a monthly equivalent derived from an introductory offer.
- Find the renewal amount. Check what the same plan costs after the introductory period and when that price takes effect. The cited comparison notes higher renewals but does not provide a complete total for every term and add-on.
- Add the essentials. Check whether SSL, backups, email, migration, or other features require a particular tier or additional purchase, and include relevant charges in your comparison.
- Match the resources to your site. Verify storage, hosted-site limits, and the application requirements for the plan. Do not infer site capacity from bandwidth labels.
- Review the domain separately. If you are registering or transferring a domain with hosting, compare its renewal price and term as well; a hosting offer does not establish the domain’s long-term cost.
- Read refund eligibility. Check the guarantee’s plan, term, timing, and other conditions before relying on it. Namecheap’s support article describes a 30-day money-back policy; GoDaddy advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. Confirm the terms that apply to your purchase.
- Confirm the migration scope. Get the provider’s eligibility and transfer details for your specific site before scheduling a move.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
Namecheap’s hosting pages and GoDaddy’s product page describe their own features and policies; they are not independent tests. TechRadar’s 2026 figures offer a dated editorial comparison of selected entry plans, not a controlled performance benchmark or a guaranteed current quote. The reviewed material does not establish a complete renewal-cost comparison for every billing choice or prove that one provider delivers better support. For a final decision, use the current plan and checkout details for your region and term.
