No—not according to Makita U.S.’s published 18V LXT lineup. Makita lists 18V LXT batteries from 1.5Ah through 6.0Ah, not 12Ah. Its BL1860B is a genuine 18V LXT 6.0Ah battery, not a 12Ah model. This answer covers Makita’s published U.S. LXT range; it does not establish the history of every product in every market.
What 18V LXT battery capacities does Makita list?
Makita U.S.’s FAQ lists these 18V LXT capacities:
- 1.5Ah
- 2.0Ah
- 3.0Ah
- 4.0Ah
- 5.0Ah
- 6.0Ah
The largest capacity on that list is 6.0Ah. Makita’s BL1860B product literature identifies it as an 18V LXT 6.0Ah battery. A retailer or marketplace listing that calls a pack “Makita 18V 12Ah” is therefore not evidence that Makita U.S. lists an official 12Ah LXT battery. Makita’s U.S. FAQ and its BL1860B product literature provide the relevant published specifications.
What should you check before buying a higher-capacity battery?
Match the battery platform to the tool
Makita’s CXT, LXT, and XGT are separate battery platforms. Makita says batteries are compatible within their respective platforms, so check that the battery and tool are both LXT rather than assuming that a Makita-branded pack fits every Makita cordless tool. Some 36V (18V X2) tools use two 18V LXT batteries; check the individual tool’s requirements. See Makita’s battery compatibility guidance.

Verify the exact charger model
Makita catalog material lists DC18RC, DC18RD, and DC18SF chargers for LXT battery models including the BL1860B. Compatibility can depend on the specific equipment, so confirm the charger and battery against current product documentation rather than relying on brand or platform names alone. Makita’s catalog is a reference; consult the current manual for your exact models.
What if a listing advertises a “12Ah” Makita battery?
The published U.S. LXT capacities do not verify the capacity, origin, or safety of any individual third-party listing. Do not conclude that a specific listing is counterfeit—or genuine—on the wording alone. Check the exact model against Makita’s current product documentation and ask Makita or an authorized retailer to clarify any model that does not match its published range. Do not open or rebuild the pack: Makita’s FAQ says not to disassemble a battery cartridge.

Where does LXT fit in Makita’s cordless range?
LXT is Makita’s 18V slide-style cordless system. Makita’s system page states that its U.S. LXT system includes 350+ products in 2026; that figure describes the breadth of the system, not battery capacity or the existence of a 12Ah pack. Makita’s 18V LXT system page provides that context.
