Neither Kamatera nor Contabo is a clear winner for every workload. Kamatera is the better fit if you want to choose resources more precisely, pay hourly for short-lived servers, or select from its listed deployment regions. Contabo is the better fit if you want a fixed, higher-resource plan bundle, especially one with NVMe storage. Compare the exact configuration, location, billing term, and recovery options before choosing: the available provider information does not establish that either platform is faster or more reliable in actual use.

How do Kamatera and Contabo differ?

The main difference is how you buy and shape a server. Kamatera emphasizes configurable cloud servers, with hourly or monthly billing and the ability to scale memory, storage, and processors through its console. Contabo emphasizes named, standardized VPS plans. Its Core plans are fixed bundles; its Performance tiers add NVMe storage and are positioned for workloads with greater performance needs.

That distinction affects more than the advertised monthly price. A useful comparison needs to account for CPU allocation, RAM, storage type and capacity, network and traffic policy, region, billing commitment, and any backup or management charges. A low entry price is not a like-for-like comparison if the plans differ substantially in resources or term.

What do the displayed prices buy?

The examples below come from provider pages checked in 2026. Kamatera’s page lists monthly examples and also offers hourly servers billed by the minute. The Contabo prices shown are from its U.S. pricing page and are tied to a 24-month term. Prices and configurations can vary with location, currency, tax treatment, and checkout selections, so confirm the total for your region before ordering.

Provider and example Displayed configuration Displayed price and billing context
Kamatera Basic 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe SSD, 5 TB internet traffic $4 per month; displayed example
Kamatera Standard 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe SSD, 5 TB internet traffic $25 per month; displayed example
Kamatera Pro 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe SSD, 5 TB internet traffic $39 per month; displayed example
Contabo Cloud VPS Plus 4 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 150 GB NVMe, 500 Mbit/s port $13 per month, displayed for a 24-month term on the U.S. pricing page
Contabo Cloud VPS Plus 6 6 vCPU, 12 GB RAM, 300 GB NVMe $18.40 per month, displayed for a 24-month term on the U.S. pricing page

These examples are not equivalent configurations: for instance, Contabo Plus 4 lists substantially more CPU, memory, and storage than Kamatera Basic. Do not infer which is the better value from the monthly figures alone. Match the resources your application actually needs, then compare the same region and billing period.

Kamatera lists additional traffic at $0.01 per GB and additional storage at $0.05 per GB per month. It says customers can choose hourly or monthly pricing and that it does not require long-term commitments. Its hourly servers are billed by the minute. Extended daily backup is an optional add-on rather than an established inclusion with every base server. Verify the configuration and add-on costs in checkout.

Contabo’s U.S. page lists Core VPS 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, and 18 plans, with ranges of 4–18 vCPU cores, 8–96 GB RAM, 100–600 GB SSD, and 200 Mbit/s–1 Gbit/s port rates. Those displayed prices are tied to a 24-month term. The reviewed information does not provide the individual price for each Core plan, so compare the plan you select directly on the provider’s pricing page rather than extrapolating a price from the resource range.

Contabo describes Core traffic as unlimited, but says exceptionally high or disruptive usage may be throttled at its discretion. “Unlimited” therefore does not mean that every traffic pattern is exempt from the provider’s usage policy.

Which Contabo tier suits which workload?

Core: fixed bundles for everyday use

Contabo describes Core as standardized, with fixed CPU, RAM, network and traffic characteristics, as well as a fixed snapshot count. It recommends Core for everyday workloads such as websites and content management systems, private email, development and testing, backups, and storage. The fixed bundle can suit you if its resources fit your needs, but it offers less configuration flexibility than a custom-sized server.

Performance: NVMe and up to five snapshots

Contabo positions Performance VPS for workloads where storage speed or CPU throughput matters. Its portfolio documentation lists NVMe storage and up to five snapshots per plan. These are product characteristics and positioning, not independent evidence that a particular application will run faster than it would on Kamatera. Check the selected plan’s price, CPU allocation, and snapshot terms against a similarly sized alternative.

Max Performance: aimed at demanding production workloads

Contabo positions Max Performance for demanding production applications, high-traffic services, SaaS, and stricter SLA requirements. That positioning can help narrow which tier to evaluate, but it is not a guarantee of an application’s performance or availability. Confirm the actual plan specifications and contractual terms for your intended deployment.

How important are location, scaling, and support?

Kamatera lists deployment locations in eight U.S. cities, Toronto, seven European cities, Hong Kong, Israel, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney. It also says customers can scale server capacity up or down and can configure the operating system and applications. The reviewed Contabo information does not provide a matching detailed location list, so check its ordering flow for the regions available to you. For either provider, choose a location near your users and verify it is available for the specific plan.

Kamatera advertises 24/7 technical support and a 99.95% uptime guarantee. Those are provider statements, not independently measured support quality or observed uptime. The reviewed Contabo information does not establish a directly comparable uptime guarantee for the plans discussed here. For a production service, read the applicable SLA for the exact product and region, including exclusions and remedies, rather than treating a headline guarantee as a substitute for the contract.

Kamatera says it offers a 30-day free trial with services worth up to $100. Check the provider’s current trial terms and eligibility before relying on the offer in a deployment plan.

What should you verify about backups and recovery?

Do not treat a snapshot and a backup as interchangeable. A snapshot count describes retained snapshot points; a backup service may have different automation, retention, storage location, and restore behavior. Kamatera describes extended daily backup as an optional add-on. Contabo’s Performance documentation lists up to five snapshots per plan, while its Core documentation says snapshot count is fixed without establishing the count in the reviewed information.

  • Find out whether recovery is included in the selected plan or billed separately.
  • Check how often restore points are created and how many are retained.
  • Confirm whether restore points are stored separately from the server and whether you can restore an individual file or only a full server.
  • Test a restore before depending on it for production recovery.

Which provider should you choose?

  • Choose Kamatera when you need to size resources more precisely, want hourly billing for temporary workloads, or need one of the locations it lists. Confirm traffic limits, optional backup and management costs, and the SLA terms for your configuration.
  • Choose Contabo Core when a fixed, high-memory or high-storage bundle suits your workload and you are comfortable with the 24-month term shown on the U.S. pricing page and the stated traffic policy.
  • Consider Contabo Performance when NVMe storage and the tier’s snapshot offering align with your needs. Evaluate the actual plan specifications and price rather than relying on the tier name as a performance guarantee.
  • For latency-sensitive or production-critical services, decide with a representative application test, regional latency checks, a verified restore process, and the applicable SLA. The provider information summarized here does not include a matched independent benchmark.

Before committing, make a short comparison sheet for the exact server you would order: vCPU, RAM, storage type and size, traffic terms, region, billing commitment, backup and snapshot behavior, support terms, and total checkout price. This prevents a monthly headline price or a broad tier label from standing in for the service your application will actually use.
