If your 3D printer is not extruding, the likely causes are a clogged hotend, a problem in the filament feed path, or—in prints that stop partway through—a heat-creep issue. Start by identifying when the filament stops and checking the feed path. Then follow the troubleshooting instructions for your exact printer before clearing a clog or replacing hardware; procedures and temperatures are not universal.

Start with the symptom

Watch what happens when you load filament or use the printer’s normal extrusion control. Does filament fail to reach the hotend, reach it but not come out, emerge inconsistently, or stop only after a print has been running? Those distinctions help narrow the cause, but no single clue proves a specific part has failed.

What you see What to investigate
Filament will not load or reach the hotend Spool snags, friction or misalignment along the filament route, and debris or misalignment at the extruder gears.
Filament reaches the hotend but does not emerge, or comes out unevenly A clogged or partially clogged nozzle or hotend, as well as resistance or slippage in the feed mechanism.
Extrusion stops during a print A mid-print fault such as heat creep, in addition to a possible blockage or feed problem.

Check whether filament can reach the extruder

If filament will not load, begin with the parts of its route you can inspect without disassembling the printer. Make sure the spool turns freely, the filament is not caught or kinked, and it follows the intended path to the extruder. Look for obvious friction or misalignment.

Check accessible drive-gear teeth for packed filament or debris. Prusa’s filament-loading guidance includes gummed-up gear teeth and gear misalignment among issues to inspect; its instructions are specific to the printer models they cover. See Prusa’s filament-loading troubleshooting guide and consult the corresponding guide for your printer if you use another model.

Creality Official Ender 3 Extruder Upgrade Metal Drive Feeder 3D Printer Parts for Ender-3 Pro/3S/3 V2/3 Max CR-10/10S Gray Aluminum 1.75mm Filament Extruder
  • 【Quality Assurance】100% official all-metal 3D printer extruder. High quality aluminum alloy material and sandblast to surface oxidization, ensuring this gray extruder is last for long term use. Works better than original plastic stock extruder. Original Creality 3D printers accessories for Ender-3/Ender-3 Pro/Ender-3S/Ender-3 V2/Ender-3 Max/CR-10/CR-10S
  • 【Work Better】Our 3d printer extruder kits have an adjustable bolt so that you can adjust the pressure of the extruder gear as needed. The extruder drive has better stronger pressure pushing the filament into the printer nozzle and so will improve the printer's performance. 40 Teeth drive gear feeds the 1.75mm filament, compatible with PLA/ABS/Wood/TPU/PTEG
  • 【Improved Performance】The optimized extruder with metal extrusion and original hotend kit pushes the filament into the printer nozzle, greatly making the metal extruder retain power in filament feed-in. And the beveled filament intake can prevent scraping the filament as it is pulled into the feeder
  • 【Easy To Install】DIY kit and you need to assemble by yourself. The full necessary screws & parts kit for the extruder is included. Referring to instructions or our 5th picture to install, it is very easy and straightforward to switch to this upgraded part on your machine

Investigate a clog or inconsistent flow

If filament reaches the hotend but does not come out—or flow is weak, uneven, or interrupted—a partial or complete clog is one possibility. A partial clog can still let some filament through while causing gaps or missing layers. Prusa notes that filament curling toward and sticking to the nozzle, inconsistent flow, and extruder clicking can be clues, but none is a definitive diagnosis. Clicking or grinding may mean the drive is slipping against resistance; check both the hotend and feed mechanism rather than assuming the nozzle is the only cause. Prusa’s clogged-nozzle guide describes the issue for the CORE One, CORE One L, XL, MK4/S, and MK3.9/S families.

Use the loading or test-extrusion procedure in your printer’s manual to see whether flow returns. If it does, try a small test print and inspect the result before starting a long job. A brief return of flow is useful evidence, but it does not by itself establish that the problem is fully resolved.

If extrusion stops during a print

When the printer initially extrudes and later stops while its motion continues, treat that as a separate fault pattern. Heat creep is one issue identified in Prusa’s mid-print extrusion troubleshooting; a nozzle-tip clog is not the only possibility. Check the documentation for your printer’s hotend and cooling system, and follow its model-specific troubleshooting path. Prusa’s troubleshooting index for extrusion stopping during a print includes heat creep as a topic.

Clear a suspected clog using the printer’s own instructions

Manufacturers may describe methods such as pushing filament through a heated hotend or performing a cold pull, but which method, temperature, and disassembly steps are appropriate depends on the printer and hotend. Prusa’s procedures cover particular model families, not every FDM printer. For example, its separate guidance for the MK3.5, MK3S+, and MK2.5S describes hotend cleaning and cautions against loading filament while a needle is inserted. Read the guide for those Prusa models only if it matches your printer; otherwise, use your manufacturer’s instructions.

Creality Ender 3 /Pro/V2 3D Printer Assembled Extruder MK8 HotEnd Kit 24V with 0.4mm Nozzle Upgrade with Low Friction Creality-Capricorn Tubing
  • It's 100% Creality Original and Creality-Capricorn PTFE Tubing.
  • Upgrade with Low Friction Creality-Capricorn Original Teflon Tube 40CM.
  • Hotend replacement parts suitable for ender 3, ender-3x, ender-3 pro, Ender 3 V2 3d printer.
  • High Lubricity Additives make our XS Series tubing the lowest friction Bowden tubing on the market. Less friction means more responsiveness, less retraction, more accurate prints, less slippage, wear, and tear on the extruder, and less clogging when printing chunky filaments such as some woodfills or ironfills. Lower retraction means time saved every time the extruder retracts. Over the course of a print, a few milliseconds here and a few there add up to a lot of time saved.
  • Creality-Capricorn tube is far superior to the white PTFE tubing supplied with most 3D printers. Its much smoother to feed filament through. And when printing it reduces the drag on the extruder giving a much smoother travel and print quality.

If the printer reports a temperature fault, stop rather than forcing extrusion or improvising a cleaning procedure. Consult the exact model’s manufacturer guidance before continuing.

When a replacement nozzle may be appropriate

A replacement nozzle may be needed if cleaning does not restore flow or the nozzle is damaged. Prusa’s guidance for the CORE One/CORE One L/XL/MK4/S/MK3.9/S families notes that a blockage may be farther up than the nozzle tip, so persistent trouble can require replacement rather than repeated attempts to clear the tip.

  • TRANSPARENT DESIGN: You can see through it and look at how it works.
  • Bowden Dual Drive Gears grip the filament from each side, high extrusion force, ensure smooth feeding and gives snappy retractions.
  • The transmission ratio is 3: 1, the double-gear reduction mechanism feeds the material stably, does not slip, and at the same time gives the extrusion greater torque.
  • for Ender 3 V2, Ender 3 Pro, Ender 3 Series, Ender 5 Pro, Ender 5 Plus, CR10 Series, Anycubic Mega S, Tevo Tornado, Wanhao D9, Anet A8 E10, Prusa I3 and DIY 3D Printer.
  • The fastening spring device allows the user to fine-tune the pressure applied to the consumables by the dual-drive gear for feeding, which is convenient for replacing consumables of different materials.

Before buying a replacement, verify the printer and hotend compatibility, the nozzle type and dimensions specified by the manufacturer, and whether the diagnosis calls for a nozzle alone or a larger hotend assembly. There is no universal nozzle recommendation established here. Search for a “3D printer replacement nozzle” only with your exact printer and hotend model in hand.
