Cancel your ChatGPT subscription through the service that billed you: ChatGPT’s website for a web purchase, Apple Subscriptions for an App Store purchase, Google Play for a Play Store purchase, or Workspace settings for a self-service ChatGPT Business plan. Check your receipt or billing page first if you are unsure which platform to use.
Find out where you subscribed
Cancellation controls are managed by the billing platform, so a subscription bought on chatgpt.com will not appear in Apple or Google Play subscriptions. Check your purchase receipt, or look in each relevant billing account, to identify the service handling the charge. OpenAI’s cancellation guidance covers personal ChatGPT subscriptions and self-service ChatGPT Business subscriptions; it does not cover Enterprise or Edu plans.

Cancel through the platform that billed you
ChatGPT subscription purchased on chatgpt.com
- Sign in to ChatGPT using the account that made the purchase.
- Open the account menu and select Settings.
- Select Billing.
- Under Cancel plan, select Cancel and follow any confirmation prompts.
Subscription purchased through Apple
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then select ChatGPT.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
If there is no Cancel Subscription button and an expiration date is shown, the subscription may already be canceled. Apple manages cancellations for App Store purchases; use Apple’s subscription settings for that plan.

- Sign in to the Google account used to buy the subscription.
- In the Google Play Store app, open Subscriptions and select ChatGPT.
- Select Cancel subscription and follow the confirmation prompts.
You can also use the Google Play website: open Subscriptions, select Manage for ChatGPT, then choose Cancel subscription.

Self-service ChatGPT Business subscription
- Sign in to ChatGPT and open the account menu.
- Choose Workspace settings, then Billing.
- Choose Manage plan and select Cancel subscription.
If you cannot access workspace billing, ask the workspace owner to cancel or help you access the billing settings. These steps are for self-service Business plans, not Enterprise or Edu plans.
When to cancel and what happens afterward
OpenAI advises canceling at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid being charged for the next subscription period. After an ordinary cancellation, paid features remain available until the end of the current billing period. Cancellation prevents future renewals; it does not automatically refund a previous charge. Eligibility is not established by canceling.

The subscription does not appear in a store
First identify the billing platform from your receipt. A web purchase will not appear in Apple or Google Play subscriptions. For an Apple or Google Play purchase, check that the device is signed in to the store account used for the purchase. For a web purchase, sign in to the ChatGPT account used when subscribing.

Uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel an Apple or Google Play subscription; cancel it through the store that manages the billing. OpenAI says deleting a ChatGPT account cancels subscriptions billed directly by ChatGPT, but does not cancel an Apple-billed subscription. Check Google Play separately and cancel there if the subscription remains active. OpenAI explains these distinctions in its subscription cancellation instructions.
You may have more than one active subscription
Check ChatGPT web billing, Apple Subscriptions, and Google Play Subscriptions if charges seem duplicated. OpenAI notes that subscribing on more than one platform can leave multiple active subscriptions and lead to multiple charges. Cancel each subscription on the platform that manages it. Its duplicate-charge guidance describes this situation.
You cannot access the account email
If ChatGPT billed you directly and you cannot sign in, contact OpenAI Support. OpenAI’s cancellation article asks for the account email, the last four digits of the payment card, and the date of the latest subscription payment; do not send the full card number. For Apple or Google Play billing, recover or access the store account tied to the purchase.
Confirm the cancellation
After canceling, check the subscription status on the same platform that billed you. Confirm that renewal is stopped and note the displayed expiration or end-of-period date. If the status is unclear, use that platform’s support route rather than assuming that removing the app or changing accounts ended the subscription.
